Leader elected at Lewes District Council

Cllr Rob Blackman was re-elected as the Leader, and Cabinet members take on responsibility for different aspects of the council’s work.

The new Cabinet is:
Cllr Blackman - Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Enterprise and Partnerships.
Cllr Andy Smith - Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources.
Cllr Paul Franklin  - Cabinet Member for Environment.
Cllr Tom Jones  - Cabinet Member for Planning.
Cllr Ron Maskell – Cabinet Member for Housing.
Cllr Elayne Merry – Cabinet Member for People and Performance.

Cllr Ruth O’Keeffe who represents Lewes Priory ward is the new Chair of Lewes District Council and her appointment was approved at today’s Annual Council Meeting.

Cllr Robbie Robertson, ward councillor for Peacehaven West was appointed Vice-Chair of the Council.

The Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group is Cllr Sarah Osborne. The Convenor of the Green Party is Cllr Tony Rowell, and the Leader of the Independent Group is Cllr Ruth O’Keeffe.

Following the local district elections the Conservative Party Group has overall control of Lewes District Council with the make-up of the 21 wards as follows:

  • 24 Conservative Party Group
  • 11 Liberal Democrat
  • 3 Green Party
  • 2 Independent
  • 1 UKIP
