'Having something to say comes with time, with listening, and with minding silence, not chattering toward thought. This wholly distinctive contribution to American letters reminds us that enduring substance need only speak calmly, honestly, and artfully. The quiet elegance and well-crafted lines the strange, brilliant vision recall at turns Williams, Stevens, and Frost."  Writers Digest International Book Award

Daril Bentleys The Long Lake: And Other Poems is a book firmly rooted in the Grand Western Tradition of nature poetry which continues in the work of such great well-known poets as Mary Oliver as well as the less well known but equally compelling Bentley. Seth Jani, Editor-in-Chief, Seven CirclePress

These poems are about something real. I like their delicacy and terseness. I've enjoyed the experience, which doesn't happen that much for me.Ted Solotaroff, founder of The New American Review; poetry editor, HarperCollins; and author of A Few Good Voices in My Head: Reading and Editing My Contemporaries

Selected from the author's 35 years of writing collected in eight previous books and including a substantial selection of new work this volume offers a neglected lyric voice that has been compared to the likes of Robert Frost, Mary Oliver, Wallace Stevens, and William Carlos Williams. In the line that includes Dickinson, Bynner, Creeley, and Kooser, Mr. Bentley reaffirms the gravitas of density and brevity.

Among a broad scope of subjects, everywhere here is a Dickensian concern for the poor and powerless and a lament for the dignity of the child lost to the corruptions of the world. These poems  do something other with language to translate realities that defy the literal.

DARIL BENTLEY has edited the work of many noted poets including that of U.S. Poets Laureate Donald Hall, Stanley Kunitz, and William Stafford. Among other honors, his In That Other Life was a semifinalist for the Yale Series of Younger Poets Award and his The Long Lake was a finalist for the New Mexico Book Award for Poetry and received honorable mention in the Writer's Digest International Book Award for Poetry. His Certain Mercies was nominated for the Colorado Independent Publishers Association EVVY Award for Poetry. He has twice been a finalist in the Scottish International Open Poetry Competition and a finalist in several other U.S. contests. He is also author of The Bentley Guide to Poets & Poetry in English. Principal of Bentley Editorial Services, he has also edited many notable authors in fiction and nonfiction. He lives in Corning near the Finger Lakes region of New York State.
