Chicago Blackhawks’ Streak Continues after Win Over Colorado Avalanche
The Chicago Blackhawks have not lost in regulation in the 2012-13 season, and extended the streak on Wednesday night with a 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche.
The Blackhawks were trailing heading into the third period, but the hockey gods helped them win once again. The team scored twice in the third period, including a goal by Daniel Carcillo with only 50 seconds remaining in the game.
We are officially halfway through the lockout shorten NHL season, and the Blackhawks have taken points in the all first 24 games this season. It has been 347 days since the Blackhawks have lost a regular season regulation game.
Additionally, the Blackhawks No. 2 goaltender Ray Emery became the first goaltender in NHL history to start a season 10-0-0. Carcillo’s goal, which was his first in 478 days, made him the 13th Blackhawk to score a game-winning-goal during this streak.
The Blackhawks only trail the Philadelphia Flyers of 1979-80 for the longest point streak in NHL history. The 1979-80 Flyers went 30 games with points, while this Blackhawks team has gone 25 straight games.
“The best part about this streak right now is the amount of one goal games we have won,” said Patrick Kane after Wednesday night’s win over the Avalanche. The Blackhawks have been involved in 16 one goal games over the streak.
Kane and the Blackhawks continue to sit first in the NHL in points, with the second place team sitting a full 12 points behind them. It’s safe to say the Presidents Trophy is well within reach.
The Blackhawks need six more straight games with points to beat the 1979-80 Flyers. Fatigue will be a factor as they head to Colorado to take on the Avalanche on Friday looking to extend their streak.
