Veteran of the city Andrew Haste assumed the role of chairman of Wonga in 2014. With the pay-day lender once known for its extortionate interest rates, juvenile puppet commercials and bands of controversy, the respected Haste took on the arguably unenviable task of cleaning up its act and rectifying some of its potential previous indiscretions. Committed to reinventing the lender as an ‘accepted and respected’ company, Haste must comply with the harsher restrictions recently levied on the loans industry. At the beginning of 2015, Wonga reduced its headline interest rate by nearly three quarters, and Haste continues to play an active role in its leadership.
