Meet Felix Auger-Aliassime, the 14-year-old beating pro players nearly 10 years older

Forget Milos Raonic and Eugenie Bouchard, Canada has a new tennis prodigy Felix Auger-Aliassime. The 14-year-old from Montreal has continued to amaze on the professional tennis circuit by becoming the youngest ever player to hold an ATP ranking inside the top 800.

He is now ranked No.749 after beating in straight sets Australian 21-year-old, and world No.478, Andrew Whittington, in the $US100,000 men's challenger event in Grandby, Canada last week.

This new ranking now makes him the only player born in the new millennium to achieve such a feat.

Auger-Aliassime's' second round challenge was world No.202 Darian King from Barbados. He not only beat the Bajan, but won a 43-stroke rally, which the teenager eventually won with a cheeky drop shot.

The teen phenomenon, who shares a birthday with tennis legend Roger Federer, eventually bowed out in the quarter finals, but not before a rousing first-set comeback where he clawed back a 1-4 deficit by winning five straight games. He ran out of gas in a three-set loss 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 to Japanese teen Yoshihito Nishioka, a 19-year-old lefty currently ranked 137 in the world.

Auger-Aliassime has nonetheless made a strong impression on the tennis comminuty with Canadian Davis Cup captain Martin Laurendeau telling Toronto's Globe and Mail, "I keep using the word incredible to describe it. I wish there was a better one, but there really isn't. It really is kind of hard to believe."

To put his achievements in perspective, 20-year-old Nick Kyrgios, who is widely considered the world's best young player and a potential future world No. 1, won his first Challenger match aged 17 in 2013 before going on to win a title later that year.
