  • He has joined Roma on a year-long loan from Arsenal
  • Roma had been interested in signing Szczesny on a permanent deal
  • Szczesny lost his place as Arsenal's No 1 goalkeeper last season

Wojciech Szczesny immediately demonstrated his allegiance to new side Roma on Monday as he wore their scarf, having arrived at the Leonardo da Vinci International Airport.

On Sunday, the goalkeeper announced that he will join the Serie A outfit on a season-long loan by posting a video on his Instagram account confirming that he would be leaving the Emirates for the Stadio Olimpico.

And having flown into Rome to finalise his deal, Szczesny beamed as he was greeted by a sea of Roma fans and journalists ahead of his new challenge.

In his social media post, the 25-year-old, speaking in Italian, said: 'Good evening Giallorossi! I am very happy, because I am going to Roma tomorrow. I'll see you soon.'

The Poland international has been given the go-ahead to complete the transfer by Arsenal who have been ironing out details of the loan fee with Roma looking to pay an initial £250,000.

The Italian giants had been interested in signing Szczesny permanently but that did not suit the player or Arsenal at this stage.

Szczesny lost his place as Arsenal's No 1 goalkeeper last season following David Ospina's arrival, and this summer's signing of Petr Cech from Chelsea has pushed him further from the first team.
