About Us

Mt. Carmel-Kanuga

Organized in 1994, The Haden Institute offers Spiritual Direction and Dream Leader Training in the Jungian, Christian, and mystical tradition. We have over 200 graduates in the US and Canada. Our programs are offered for professionals and non-professionals. Graduates incorporate our training into their own lives, churches and professions. Some set up a private practice. The foundation of The Haden Institute is the relationship between Jungian psychology and spirituality. This purpose is achieved through training courses and conferences.

The training courses are a combination of on-site and distance learning. The Spiritual Direction Training – US and the Dream Leader Training meet at Kanuga Conference Center, Hendersonville, NC, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, for four-day weekend intensives, three times a year, for two years. The Spiritual Direction Training – Canada, co-sponsored by The Mount Carmel Spiritual Centre (Carmelite Friars) and The Haden Institute, meets at The Mt. Carmel Spiritual Centre, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada for seven-day intensives, twice a year, for two years. All three training programs offer certificates of completion and have top faculty from across the US and Canada.

The annual Summer Dream Conference has become the portal for Christian dream work in the country. It is a major conference for all who want to recover the ancient Biblical tradition of listening for God’s word in our nightly dreams. The conference is for professionals (especially clergy), counselors, therapists, lay dream group leaders, and anyone who wants to integrate this process into her or his life. Many return each summer for support, brokering and learning from top dream faculty from across the country. The conference has been designed for new and returning participants.

Graduate Weekends are offered for the continuing education and camaraderie of our graduates.
