Information for Freshman Applicants

You may want to go right to our application, but we hope you'll take a minute to check out the stuff that everyone should know (like important dates and deadlines, checking your status and applying for federal student aid), as well as information for special applicant groups (EOP applicants, talent applicants and home-schooled applicants).

Stuff Everyone Should Know

Dates and Deadlines

Early action deadline: November 15

  • You must submit either The Common Application or SUNY Application by November 15.
  • All other required application materials (transcripts and test scores) must be submitted by December 2.
  • Binghamton will provide early action decisions by January 15. Note: Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) applicants are not eligible for early action.

Regular admission deadline: January 15

  • All required application materials (transcripts and test scores) must be submitted by January 15.
  • Binghamton will provide regular admission decisions by April 1.

Check Status of Your Application Regularly

Once you've applied, you should regularly check the status of your application. To do this, you'll need a User ID and password. About 5 days after we receive your application, we'll e-mail you a Binghamton University B-Number and User ID. Once you receive these, you'll need to activate your password, and then you can check your application status.

Apply for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Be sure to complete the 2015-16 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you'd like to be considered for federal and/or New York state financial aid. You can apply online starting January 1, and Binghamton's recommended filing date is February 1. You can still apply for financial aid after this date, but be aware that funding for institutional need-based financial aid is limited, and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. All admitted students who have a FAFSA on file (and sent to Binghamton University) receive a financial aid award notification via e-mail from Financial Aid Services in November 2015 for spring 2016 admission and in March 2016 for fall 2016 admission.

Stuff for Specific Applicant Groups

EOP Applicants

Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) students may be requested to complete and submit additional academic and financial application materials.

Talent Applicants

If you have a special talent (art, music, speech/debate, theater/dance) you wish to continue pursuing in some way at Binghamton University, consider submitting a special talent portfolio. This enables us to consider your talents during the admissions process. It doesn't affect your intended major and isn't an audition to enter any program.

Requirements and instructions are posted below by talent:

Home-Schooled Applicants

Binghamton is happy to accept and review applications from students who received their education through home-schooling experiences.

To maintain consistency in how we read applications from all students and to ensure we can thoroughly evaluate whether you've met the necessary foundation of skills and academic credentials to be successful at Binghamton, as a home-schooled applicant, you must submit the following materials in addition to those required of all freshman applicants:

  • An individualized home instruction plan (IHIP) for all four years or a complete portfolio of your work. Quarterly reports covering your entire "high school" time are also accepted.

AND EITHER

  • A letter from the superintendent of the school district in which you reside attesting to your completion of a program of home instruction that is the substantial equivalent of a four-year high school course of instruction.

OR

  • A high school equivalency diploma (GED). Please provide the score report (a passing score is required) and the diploma itself, if available.

Submit these materials:

By mail: Binghamton University, Office of Undergraduate Admissions, PO Box 6001, Binghamton, NY 13902-6001
