Be part of the Club!

Join the more than 2,000 students who participate in 39 recreational and competitive clubs.

Club sports are a great opportunity to meet others who have a common interest and desire to participate in a particular sport. You'll learn new skills, improve existing skills, become more educated about fitness and health, engage in competition, and enjoy recreational and social time with friends.

Attend a GIM the first two weeks of classes

GIMs or general information meetings are the first step to joining a club. These meetings are typically 30 minutes to an hour long, and provide you with a chance to talk with team leaders about practices, time commitment and schedules.

Recreational and competitive teams

Club sports fall into three categories:

  • Recreational: meet on an average of once a week and participate with other members of the club.
  • Recreational with a limited competitive component: meet on an average of three times per week and compete against other colleges and universities.
  • Competitive: meet as often as two or three times a week to everyday of the week. In addition, they compete against other colleges and universities in both leagues and tournaments.

Some of the more competitive clubs compete in post season play and regional and national championships. Most of these clubs have an instructor who assists in supervision, strategy and skill development.

Leadership opportunities

Binghamton club sports are chartered, sponsored and funded by the Student Association and governed by a constitution (pdf, 80kb).

Clubs are administered through the Department of Campus Recreational Services and our full time professional staff help oversee and assist club leaders with all aspects of managing the team.

But team leaders are responsible for overseeing the operations of the team including schedules, budgets, team conduct, travel, alumni relations and fundraising.
