Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Elvin Bishop is the headliner for this weekend's second annual Lowertown Blues Festival in Mears Park.

A charter member of the influential Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Bishop has built a durable career and reputation as one of the genre's most entertaining singer-songwriter and guitarists.

Back in the 1970s, Bishop scored several radio hits with Capricorn Records, later resuming his recording career with Chicago's Alligator Records.

Bishop's 8:30 p.m. appearance on the main festival stage will be preceded at 6:30 p.m. by singer/guitarist Walter Trout, who's back on tour after recovering from a successful liver transplant.

Other main stage performers will include Jimi and the Band of Souls, Lisa Wenger & Her Mean Mean Men, the Dee Miller Band, and the McNally Smith Blues Ensemble.

For its second year, the festival has added a second stage, the Juke Joint Stage, along with more food and other vendors, according to organizer Steve Heckler. Noon-10 p.m.; Saturday, July 25; Mears Park, Fifth and Sibley streets; free; lowertownbluesfestival.com.
