Zac Efron Signs On To Join The Rock In That ‘Baywatch’ Movie

It’s time for Zac Efron to break out the red swim trunks and that little orange floaty-thing. The actor will be joining Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the upcoming movie version of the campy TV series Baywatch. Playing a beefcake lifeguard shouldn’t be too big a stretch for Efron given his recent roles in bro-comedies like Neighbors and That Awkward Moment, so it seems like a pretty natural fit.

Though the movie has been in the works for a while, it really seemed to get traction a few months ago when The Rock signed on, leading many to believe that it will be more of an action-comedy in the style of Ghostbusters or 21 Jump Street, rather than a faithful retelling of the world’s most dangerous beach.

Given the pictures of the stars that are being used to announce their participation, it’s pretty clear that the producers have a certain body type in mind for their male stars. I’m guessing we’ll see a similar type of theme with the female cast members as well, just as soon as a few get announced.

Coming up soon for Efron are roles in Neighbors 2, the EDM movie We Are Your Friends, and the Robert De Niro film Dirty Grandpa. So while other young actors may flock to the indie scene to build credibility for later in their career, it looks like Zac Efron has carved out a pretty lucrative niche for himself going in the other direction.

I mean, it’s not like taking his shirt off is going to be a BAD strategy.
