  Finn Fest set for Aug. 14-16

  For residents of Wixom, Walled Lake and surrounding areas, it’s difficult to imagine a better way to enjoy summer than with friends, family, cold drinks, and a softball tournament than at the 39th annual Finn Fest in Wixom. This year’s festival will take place on Friday, Aug. 14 and run through Sunday, Aug.16. The event is sponsored by the Finn Camp which is located at 2524 Loon Lake Road.

But that’s where 13-year old Noah Willbrandt of Waterford is headed as he plans to make his mark next week at the 34th annual Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.

  WAZA track club qualifies athletes to AAU Junior Olympics

  Lakeland High School junior Marisa Sailus took on the heptathlon for the first time recently at the AAU Regional 12 National Qualifier recently in Ypsilanti and placed second in her age group (17-18 year olds), earning a trip to the AAU Junior Olympics July 31-Aug. 8 in Hampton Roads, Va.

  Walled Lake Northern’s Hager commits to Eastern Michigan

  WALLED LAKE >> Walled Lake Northern’s Devin Hager has verbally committed to play college baseball at Eastern Michigan University. Arguably the best shortstop in Oakland County last spring, Hager held a .928 fielding average, was part of 14 double plays, and was able to make difficult plays look routine, getting to ground balls that most infielders would not have the chance to get to, let alone make a play.
