Este trabajo presenta un modelo de investigación mediante estudio de casos desarrollado para facilitar la elaboración de tesis de posgrado en el ámbito de la PyME. Sus características responden a las necesidades de diversos programas de posgrado de la Universidad de Guadalajara (México) en particular los que forman parte del Padrón de Programas de Excelencia del Conacyt y tienen como objetivo formar investigadores, motivo por el cual resulta fundamental que sus egresados puedan demostrar capacidad de realizar investigación académica.

Pakistan is in the midst of crisis. It is threatened by virulent extremist groups and is suffering from a failing education system that is poorly funded, politically manipulated and which promulgates an undefined Islamo-nationalist ideology that lays the foundations for widespread acceptance of ideologically motivated violence. Reforms to the curriculum have been legislated but are badly implemented by the country's politicians and the international community has largely turned a blind eye to these shortcomings. Unless aid and advocacy is specifically focused on far-reaching educational reform that directly tackles extremism, the long-term consequences will be extremely severe.

Immigration is a structural dimension of Italian society and immigrants began to emerge as a
"new" audience and a as “new” market for businesses. Multicultural media provides information
to this new kind of audience, representing a necessary and indispensable basis in the process of
social  integration. Today  they  constitute  the  place  of  expression  of  cultural  minorities  in  the
sphere of public opinion. 
This paper  analyses the emerging phenomenon of diasporic radios in Milano and its evolution 
with the purpose of defining both its positioning and its growth trends from a qualitative point
of view. Moreover, analysing the concentrations of foreign communities in the city it aims to
figure out links and relationships that the communities of immigrants have with the programmes
under investigation. In conclusion it addresses the issue of the tension between audiences and
markets to determine the likely  role on  the industry from a social and economic standpoint.

It  is  only  since  the  beginning  of  the  XXI  century,  with  Law  4/2000,  that  integration  has  been
incorporated into political and social debates in Spain; still, the current institutional framework took
place almost a decade later with Law 2/2009. This legal measure introduced a framework of multi-
level governance of migration based on cooperation among central administration institutions, local
governments and civil society. The integration model established by Spanish policymakers presents
itself as diversified and responsive to the different dimensions related to integration. The main focus is
on the areas of reception, education and employment, with employment representing the destination of
most financial allocations. The main political tool is represented by the Strategic Plan for Citizenship
and  Integration  (PECI),  whose  action  is  complemented  by  other  measures  addressing  specific
immigrant communities. The  PECI  proved  to  be  a  fruitful tool  for  integration and  social  cohesion,
especially taking into account the context of the economic crisis and the intense growth of migration
inflow that characterized this period of implementation.

The sustainability of business activities is gaining increasing importance with organizations putting more effort into this topic. Approaches from the field of Business Process Management (BPM) can support sustainability initiatives. This paper investigates the question raised by BPM researchers about the role of BPM for the transition towards a sustainable enterprise. Online content analysis of 78 case studies is used to derive the context, methods and effects of environmental initiatives across industries. While BPM techniques are foremost implemented and used to achieve cost benefits through more efficient processes, the results of this explorative study indicate they are also applied to promote and achieve an efficient use of resources leading to more sustainable business operations if supported by the top management and a “green” strategy. These results are industry independent and support the research findings in the domains of quality management as well as strategy realization providing BPM researchers and practitioners with insights on the assessment of a transition towards a more sustainable business.

In this paper we will investigate the case of FedEx[4], an American global courier delivery services which was founded in 1971. In the following chapters we will take a closer look at the business development of FedExand analyze the strategies that the company has implementedsince the foundation of it.

The year 2011 has marked a decade since the Enron collapse, considered the most emblematic corporate scandal worldwide. Despite its importance, few studies provide an integrated analysis of the underlying failures that allowed Enron’s debacle, going beyond the traditional view that reduces the case to a mere "accounting fraud". Few studies also evaluate the main lessons from the Enron scandal in perspective, by comparing its common causes with corporate scandals that emerged during the global financial crisis in 2007-2008. These are the gaps I aim to fill. I conclude that Enron’s accounting manipulations, rather than being the cause of the problems, were the consequence of managerial failures and wishful blindness by its stakeholders. I also show that some lessons from Enron have not been fully internalized by companies worldwide, since most of its underlying causes are similar to those of several corporate scandals that emerged a couple of years later.

El objetivo de este trabajo es proponer el estudio de casos modular como una estrategia adecuada para aprovechar la información colectada en investigaciones independientes, que contienen elementos comunes, con el fin de construir bases de evidencia de mayor amplitud que la que proporciona cada caso de forma individual. Se propone una tipología de casos en módulos que pueden ser ensamblados de distintas formas, con módulos realizados en otros casos, con el fin de ampliar las bases de evidencia y facilitar la realización de otros análisis además del realizado en cada caso como unidad independiente. Se expone la forma en que esta estrategia está siendo aplicada en una investigación actualmente en proceso.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to highlight issues related to appropriate design and conduct of qualitative studies in educational leadership.
Design/methodology/approach: The paper is a conceptual/logical argument that while scholars in the field have at times paid attention to such dynamics, it is important that issues special to the field are considered by all.
Findings: The major findings indicate that researchers/analysts need to determine not only the
existence and accessibility of the qualitative research design and its various data collection strategies for leadership studies but also its authenticity and usefulness, taking into account the original purpose, the context in which it is produced and the intended audience.
Originality/value: Certain research issues relate to general issues of sound practices but the authors also consider several issues that make educational leadership scholarship unique. The originality of the paper draws attention to certain dynamics that scholars should consider when designing and conducting qualitative research on educational leadership. In doing so, the authors not only draw on the literature but also on their own experience designing, conducting and publishing qualitative research on educational leadership.

This case study was designed to investigate how increased autonomy through the adoption of a pupil voice project could impact on student engagement in a Year 8 topic for the development of band instrumental skills. It draws on relationships in student cognition, identified in relevant educationist literature, between perceived autonomy, perceived self-efficacy and engagement, and aims to close the gap between music that students choose to engage with at home and that which they are subjected to in school, in order to motivate those who struggle to see how music in school is relevant to them. Key points for consideration of the research include: (1) how can consultation with a class and decisions made by a pupil voice committee increase students’ perceived autonomy?, (2) what effect, if any, does an increase in perceived autonomy have on perceived self-efficacy?, and (3) how can increased levels of perceived autonomy and perceived self-efficacy benefit engagement? Methods for data collection included the visual recording of plenaries, interventions and performance, as well as questionnaires designed to assess students’ perceived self-efficacy both before and after the project. The main findings include increased engagement from those students who showed an increase in perceived self-efficacy, but a decrease in perceived self-efficacy in performance from a multi-instrumentalist when afforded greater autonomy.

As equitable educational opportunity remains an important element of development in Mexico, this study uses multiple methods to assess ways in which student, classroom, and school variables influence literacy learning (or reading) for third grade students across states (including the Federal District). In this paper I combine case study data with descriptive statistics (frequency assessments, means, standard deviations, and mean comparisons) and a series of hierarchal linear models to evaluate the influence of the turno escolar (i.e., school shift) on student literacy learning. More specifically, the influence of the turno escolar is assessed along with the modalidad escolar as school effects on literacy learning, and the difference of such effects across states, are evaluated. Limitations to the dataset and relevant recommendations for further research, policy, and practices are offered.

The purpose of this study was to describe the interaction of contextual and individual features associated with the literacy development of three Mexican third grade students—Adolfo, Josefina, and Valeria (pseudonyms)—over a 7-month period—from mid-fall 2007 to the end of the 2008 spring semester. Individual cases are presented and comparisons between cases are made. Part of a broader quantitative analysis of school factors related to the literacy outcomes of third-grade students nationally (Jensen & Garcia-Pacheco, Submitted), this paper presents data from interviews with teachers, parents, students, and principals; classroom observations; and literacy assessments (using the Test de Análisis de Lectura y Escritura [TALE; Toro & Cervera, 1980]). A model of sociocultural psychology was used to frame the design of the study and the interpretation of the findings. Particular emphasis was given to ways in which classroom processes were moderated by students’ sociocultural backgrounds (e.g., parent education, immigration history, out-of-school activity) to shape learning and related motivation. Implications related to Mexico-US migration and the need for further classroom-based studies are discussed.

'Was ist der Fall?‘ untersucht die Bedeutsamkeit der Fallarbeit für das Verstehen pädagogischen Handelns und pädagogischer Institutionen. Neben dezidiert schulpädagogischen Perspektiven werden auch allgemein erziehungswissenschaftliche, sozialpädagogische und erwachsenenbildnerische in den Blick genommen. In den Beiträgen ausgewiesener Fachwissenschaftler_innen finden sich Antworten auf die Frage, der Fall Grundprobleme pädagogischen Handelns losgelöst von alltäglichen Handlungszwängen, Routinen und Ablaufmustern sichtbar machen kann. Darüber hinaus geht es auch darum, unterschiedliche Zugänge zur Fallarbeit herauszuarbeiten.

Trabajo de tesis presentado en el pregrado de psicología de la Universidad de Antioquia, (Medellín-Colombia) con la pregunta sobre las denominaciones desde el ámbito médico y jurídico de los llamados dementes-locos-alienados. Este trabajo busca rastrear y comprender, a partir de un expediente judicial de 1908, el entramado nominal sobre la locura, así como algunos de los comportamientos asociados a ella. Sin el ánimo de generalizar, este análisis permite un acercamiento a los discursos y practicas presentes para el periodo de estudio en relación con la locura. A partir de la revisión de información documental, se destacan algunos referentes del reconocimiento social de la locura. Finalmente, se describe y analiza un caso de locura documentado en el municipio de Amalfi, Antioquia, en 1908.
