This paper focuses on clean energy solutions in order to achieve better sustainability, and hence discusses opportunities and
challenges from various dimensions, including social, economic, energetic and environmental aspects. It also evaluates the
current and potential states and applications of possible clean-energy systems. In the first part of this study, renewable and
nuclear energy sources are comparatively assessed and ranked based on their outputs. By ranking energy sources based on
technical, economic, and environmental performance criteria, it is aimed to identify the improvement potential for each option
considered. The results show that in power generation, nuclear has the highest (7.06/10) and solar photovoltaic (PV)
has the lowest (2.30/10). When nonair pollution criteria, such as land use, water contamination, and waste issues are considered,
the power generation ranking changes, and geothermal has the best (7.23/10) and biomass has the lowest performance
(3.72/10). When heating and cooling modes are considered as useful outputs, geothermal and biomass have
approximately the same technical, environmental, and cost performances (as 4.9/10), and solar has the lowest ranking
(2/10). Among hydrogen production energy sources, nuclear gives the highest (6.5/10) and biomass provides the lowest
(3.6/10) in ranking. In the second part of the present study, multigeneration systems are introduced, and their potential benefits
are discussed along with the recent studies in the literature. It is shown that numerous advantages are offered by renewable
energy-based integrated systems with multiple outputs, especially in reducing overall energy demand, system
cost and emissions while significantly improving overall efficiencies and hence output generation rates.

Decentralised clean energy (DCE) systems are positioned to play key role in meeting the global targets of 100% energy access. However, there are certain aspects that need to be
addressed for success of these technologies. Firstly, task of expanding energy access through these systems, to “energy poor” pose a formidable challenge to planners and development practitioners. However, economic development in several developing countries, increasing urbanisation, along with dynamic energy access programmes has played a crucial part.
Secondly, for efficient delivery of services, selection of a right business model that suits its stakeholders is important. This aspect is usually paid less attention when success of any
technology is discussed. Thirdly, these solutions require systematic analysis and research which need to be looked from the local perspective. Developing institutional, business or financial models for rural electricity supply could be a lot more complex and dynamic.
With aforementioned issues in mind, activity of preparing a detailed case study was undertaken. The aim of this activity was to assess cost-effectiveness of decentralised clean
energy solutions and to analyse delivery models innovated by energy enterprises for commercial viability and sustainability purposes. This exercise also attempted to understand whether these technologies are socially acceptable, institutionally viable and environmentally desirable and whether various financial mechanisms act as uptake drivers.
The projects selected for the study are “Solar home lighting model in Gujarat on creating a link between energy service and income generation, using innovative financing as a catalyst implemented by SELCO and SEWA Bank, 2007” and “Pico-hydro model in Karnataka implemented by S3IDF and Prakruthi Hydro Labs (PHL) in 2009.” These two projects were
supported by REEEP (Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership) which is also the knowledge partner for the study.
Methodology included extensive literature survey including mainly REEEP evaluation reports, third party evaluation studies. This was followed by stakeholder discussions with
implementing agencies and partners. On-site project visits, House-to-house visits for user feedback were also taken to validate the findings. Based on the information gathered,
analysis and conclusion have been presented in the end of the paper.
In the two case studies, it was realised that though these system are accepted by the beneficiaries, but their level of acceptance may vary pertaining to different factors, which
may or may not be local to the region. Further, for any business model to kick start there is essential requirement of seed funding, either in form or grant or soft loan. This is because in terms of investment it is still on a higher side for a rural stakeholder, be it an entrepreneur or beneficiary. Hence, an initial financial support plays a critical role. The impact of technologies cannot be quantified in every aspect however; one can clearly see improvement in quality of life.

Ka'Ara's main project was to clean up the accumulated material and garbage found on the island’s northern coast from Ovahe eastward to Mahatua. While coastal clean-ups have been in the works for years, this was the 1st attempt to quantify the amount of material pollution coming to the island. With more than 80 people from different island associations, we worked for three hours in beach and rocky coastal areas, collecting more than 800kg of waste. Recovered material that arrives to the island’s coast daily includes microplastics (at Ovahe, we recovered three one-litre bags in two hours), hard and soft plastics, aluminum, and glass. Surprisingly, accounting for almost 60% of all material recovered (by weight), were ropes and nets that are
traced to the large factory fishing boats that harvest tuna and pelagic fish around the island. Unfortunately, not only are these ships possibly over-fishing culturally and economically valuable species, but they are also leaving their fishing by-products to wash up on the island’s coast. Another idea that we have considered is how much of this ocean waste is related to the movement of the “Eastern Pacific Garbage Patch” around the island. But, regardless of this material’s origin, by working together with the island community, we realized that if we wish to make the island a cleaner place, we needed to get our own hands dirty to set an example for current and future generations. We also became determined to get the message out about the sources of ocean pollution coming to Rapa Nui.

Curl and Determinant operations are well known in the field of Electromagnetics and fluid dynamics. Famous Maxwell’s equations involve curl operation. Though this operation is widely used to represent rotation, we do not have sufficient literature explaining how this operation represents rotation.
Most of the books omit detailed discussion on the physical interpretation of the Curl and Determinant operation. In this paper we have attempted to develop a pictorial method to provide a logical proof showing the versatility of this operation to study the rotating vectors. We further show how this pictorial method simplifies the fundamental expression with regard to determinants.

This article proposes an innovative methodology which employs nondestructive
techniques to assess the effectiveness of new formulations based on ionic liquids, as alternative
solvents for enzymes (proteases), for the removal of proteinaceous materials from painted surfaces
during restoration treatments. Ionic liquids (ILs), also known as “designer” solvents, because
of their peculiar properties which can be adjusted by selecting different cation-anion combinations,
are potentially green solvents due totheir low vapour pressure. In this study, two ionic
liquids were selected: IL1 (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([BMIM][BF4])) and
IL2 (1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium ethylsulphate ([EMIM][EtSO4])). New formulations were prepared
with these ILs and two different proteases (E): one acid (E1—pepsin) and one alkaline
(E2—obtained from Aspergillus sojae). These formulations were tested on tempera and oil mockup
samples, prepared in accordance with historically documented recipes, and covered with two
different types of protein-based varnishes (egg white and isinglass—fish glue). A noninvasive
multiscale imaging methodology was applied before and after the treatment to evaluate the
cleaning’s effectiveness. Different microscopic techniques—optical microscopy (OM) with visible
and fluorescent light, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM)—
together with Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization—Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry
(MALDI-TOF MS) were applied on areas cleaned with the new formulations (IL1E) and reference
areas cleaned only with the commercial enzyme formulations (gels). MALDI-TOF proved particularly very useful for comparing the diversity and abundance of peptides released by using

Developing and generating a better way of the fossil fuel exertion is necessary in today’s transportation technology. Fossil fuels are of great importance in transport systems because they can be burned and producing significant amounts of energy to move the vehicle along. Generally usage of the air-conditioning system in the transportation will increase the usage of the fossil fuel, since the fuel is used to power the air-conditioning system, as well as to power the movement of the vehicle. The additional energy resource such as solar can be used in a vehicle to generate adequate energy to power the air-conditioning system. The research was grounded on an exploratory study. A qualitative case study approach was adopted. The data collected was analyzed to get the most efficient way to install the solar panel on a roof top of a bus. As the conclusion, the solar application will be benefit to a bus. The consumption of the fossil fuel is lowered and the efficiency of the engine is enhanced since the energy input is maximizing for the movement of the bus alone. Besides, this application also benefits to the environment as it produces lower carbon.
