Swimming World Juniors, Day 1, Singapore: Four World Junior Records bettered on the opening day

FINA World Junior Swimming Championships

To highlight the importance of this event, the 5th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships was declared open by the President of Singapore, Tony Tan.

Then FINA President Dr. Julio C. Maglione held his opening speech, greeting all young swimmers and recalling the fond memories from 2010 when the swimming competitions of the 1st Youth Olympic Games were hosted in this pool. Lee Kok Choy, President of the Singapore Swimming Association also welcomed the participating young talents, appearing in record numbers: 686 swimmers compete here this week, representing 88 nations.

The atmosphere in the wonderful swimming complex was outstanding, for obvious reasons. One can say, better thing couldn’t have happened to the Singapore’s swimming and this FINA World Junior Swimming Championships than Joseph Schooling’s bronze medal winning performance in the 100m fly at the Kazan Worlds.

Junior Women's WP Championships, Volos, Day 7: USA become the tournament winner

FINA World Junior Water Polo Championships

United States of America was the triumphant team in the 11th World Women’s Junior Championship winning for the 4th time in their history the gold medal and the first place (in 5 finals). The team of Coralie Simons was amazing during the whole tournament and fairly achieved this great success.

Αs in 2013, USA beat Spain (13-10) in a game where the difference in quality was clear between the two teams. Spain deserved the silver medal as they were extremely stable throughout the whole Championship. Russia, who grabbed the third place (they defeated Canada) even if they were sluggish in the first game, proved that can be very competitive.

The MVP of the 11th World Women’s Junior Championship was Aria Fischer from the U.S. Τhe prize of the best goalkeeper was won by Amanda Longan from USA. First scores of the tournament were Anastasia Simanovich from Russia and Greece's Eleutheria Pleuritou scoring 29 goals.

Junior Women's WP Championships, Volos, Day 6: USA and Spain in Final

FINA World Junior Water Polo Championships

USA and Spain will be the pair of the final in the 11th World Women’s Junior Championship in Volos. As in 2013, in the same swimming pool, the two teams will fight again for the gold medal (two years ago USA had won 9-7). That will be the fifth final for USA, where they will battle for the fourth time for the gold. Spain will play for the third time in a final and this is the second time she will battle for the gold.

Τhe game will start at 20:00, as Canada and Russia will play for the bronze medal (18:30).

USA and Spain were better in the two semifinals, although Russia and Canada tried to overcome the difficulties. USA dominated Russia (13-11) and Spain beat Canada (11-9).

Junior Women's WP Championships, Volos, Day 5

FINA World Junior Water Polo Championships

Canada- Spain and Russia-USA are the couples of the semi finals of the World Women’s Junior Championship in Volos.

Spain celebrated the ticket to the semi finals, beating Hungary (12-9) in the first chronologically quarter final and will confront  The game, as predicted was very interesting but Spain was leading the score till the first period. Ιrene Gonzalez hit the target 5 times, so the team of Havier Perez grabbed the vital victory.

They will confront Canada who beat Greece, in front of many people who got to the swimming pool of Volos, in order to support their team.  Canada, due to his pertinence and the lack of concentration of the Greek players managed to take a lead in the second period (5-4). Afterwards, they team of David Paradello obtained a big difference (10-6), Greece tried to reduce it, but it was late.

Junior Women's WP Championships, Volos, Day 4

FINA World Junior Water Polo Championships

Russia, Canada, Brazil and Spain are the last four teams that took the tickets to the quarter finals of the World Women’s Junior Championship (Volos) in the games of day 4.

In the most important match, Spain beat Australia (11-9), leading the score from the beginning and playing enormously well in defence.

Brazil took a notorious qualification to the quarter finals, beating Japan (12-9) in a game where the Asians were competitive till the third period. Canada dominated Mexico, winning easily (20-3).

Russia beat easily New Zealand (18-10) and will fight for a place to the semi-finals.

Nederlands had no problem against Ukraine (30-4) and will play for the rankings 13-14, as Great Britain who obtained a victory against South Africa (10-4).

Ukraine and South Africa will battle for the places 15-16.

Junior Women's WP Championships, Volos, Day 3

FINA World Junior Water Polo Championships

Italy, USA, Greece and Hungary are the four teams that grabbed the direct tickets to the quarter finals of the World Women’s Junior Championship in Volos (GRE), after the end of the games in Groups (day 3).

In the most interesting match of Group D, USA achieved a vital win against Spain (17-16). Both teams were spectacular, in a game that USA used the two goalkeepers at the same time, in the last minutes, due to the fact that they didn’t have any players available (all of them have been expelled with 3 fouls).

In a stunning game, Italy beat Canada (11-10), took the first play in Group C and also secured direct ticket to the quarter finals. That was a great game, between two ambitious teams. In the other match of the group Australia beat Netherlands (13-9) and was third.

Kazan 2015: FINA World Masters Championships sparkling closing ceremony

The 16th FINA World Masters Championships concluded with a spectacular musical show that took place in the FINA Water World Park in Kazan. Admission to the Park was free – all visitors could witness this sparkling event and immerse themselves into an incredible sports extravaganza.

Spectators were treated to an explosion of cultural events including songs performed in the Russian and English languages, masterful dances and acrobatic routines, thematic video clips, pyrotechnic effects and performances by best music and dance ensembles of the city and the Republic. FINA World Championships highlights and best moments were shared with the spectators  in a video clip entitled  ‘Kaleidoscope of FINA Worlds events’. 

The evening was headlined by the performance of the famous Russian pop band Ivanushki International. After some really foot-tapping hit songs, two high officials – FINA Bureau Member Dr. Mohamed Diop and Prime Minister of the Republci of Tatarstan Ildar Khalikov – took the floor to say their words of welcome.

Junior Women's WP Championships, Volos, Day 2

FINA World Junior Water Polo Championships

Τhe most balanced group in the World Junior Women’s Championships is proved to be Group C, where four prosperous teams are fighting for the first place. Italy was the big winner of the games in the second day in Volos, beating Australia (8-7), whereas Nederlands and Canada reached a confident draw (15-15), with the spectacle to impress the people who watched the two games.

In Group A, Greece was the winner of the most important game, in a crucial victory against Russia (16-13) that will normally give to the host country directly one of the tickets to the quarter finals, if they beat Japan tomorrow afternoon (20:00 am). Τhe suspense was major for at least 3 periods in the game, but in the last one, Greece ameliorated their defense and celebrated the second win in the competition, in front of the citizens of Volos, that applauded the effort of the Greek team. In the other game, Japan beat Great Britain (22-8).

FINA World Junior Water Polo Championships

The draw between Italy and the Nederlands (9-9) was the most noticeable result in the first day of the 11th World Women’s Junior Championship which was completed in Volos.

Italians was first leading (5-1) but then, the team of Nederlands managed to reduce the dispute and to balance it out afterwards, in Group C.

Canada obtained the most important victory against Australia (12-9),  whereas the result in group A, between Russia and Japan, in which the Asian team could have set in danger the win of Russia (23-20), was significant.

USA, Greece and Spain had a comfortable evening, beating Mexico, Great Britain and Ukraine with impressively high rates. Hungary took a comfortable victory over South Africa (18-3) in Group B and Brazil over New Zealand.

SWC 2015, Paris-Chartres, Day 2: Katinka Hosszu and Cameron Van der Burgh are first cluster winners

Swimming World Cup

In a very prolific field for Day 2 at Paris-Chartres, Katinka Hosszu (HUN) and Cameron Van der Burgh (RSA) were sacred the two first cluster winners.

Between Moscow and Chartres, Hosszu has totalised 8 gold medals. She has won the 100m and 200m free, the 200m and 400m IM of the FINA/airweave Swimming World Cup first leg and all same four events in Chartres for the second rendezvous.

Van der Burgh, who had to leave before the end of the competition to go home, took the lead of the provisional rankings with 96 points.

One more time the South-African proved the strongest in the 100m breast as he was aiming for a double in Chartes, a feat he already achieved in Moscow last week. Nicolas Fink (USA), who won 200m Breaststroke on Day 1, placed second in front of Cody Miller (USA).
