Executively produced by Werner Herzog and Errol Morris, ‘The Act of Killing’ compellingly portrays a nightmare vision of a society in which mass murderers not only go unpunished, but are celebrated for their actions by a regime and public constituency still holding to views that fuelled the slaughter in the first place – while children of the victims continue to live in fear. Except that it's not a dream, it's Indonesia today.
"This chilling film challenges our core understanding of ourselves. Could ordinary good people – just like you and me – become so evil so easily?”, asks Mukesh Kapila. “It happened in Indonesia, as it has with other mass atrocities such as in Cambodia, Rwanda and Darfur. Can we do something about it? The answer requires each of us to go into the deepest depths of our own souls. Not a comfortable journey, but a necessary one."
The screening to be hosted by Aegis will start 7.00pm, Friday 5 July at the Arts Picturehouse in Cambridge. To book tickets, click here.
