Key Dates in Lindenwood's History
- 1827 – founding of “Lindenwood Female College” by the Sibleys (Lindenwood is the oldest college west of the Missouri River)
- 1856 – receives its charter from the State of Missouri
- 1857 – Sibley Hall constructed (oldest building on campus)
- 1918 – a four-year college curriculum is established
- 1969 – becomes coeducational
- 1970 – begins offering evening classes
- 1975 – launches accelerated degree program known as the Lindenwood College for Individualized Education (LCIE)
- 1976 – begins offering master’s degrees
- 1997 – begins doing business under the name of Lindenwood University
- 1998 – takes ownership of the Daniel Boone Home and Heritage Center
- 2003 – takes ownership of the Belleville campus
- 2007 – begins offering Doctor of Education degrees
- 2009 – adds full-service day school at Belleville campus
- 2011 – approved by HLC to offer online classes
