Bam Bam and I grew up in the same area, he was from Asbury Park, I was from Point Pleasant, down the Jersey Shore. Not only did we have mutual friends, but we also had the chance to team together in WCW and we even won the WCW World Tag Team Championship when we formed the Jersey Triad.

Bam Bam was a humongous star at a very early age, and he showed anything was possible. He moved like a cat, especially when he was younger. He became a sensation in the 80's. And in Japan he was a humongous star. I mean look how he carried that match with Lawrence Taylor at WrestleMania. You can't look at his career without that match because it showed how pure an athlete he was, and how great a professional he was along with that. He was a good buddy. He could tell a good tall story, but he was the kind of guy you could depend on and he was always there for me.

We knew each other for 30 years. Big guy. All the wear and tear to his body took its toll, and with all the extracurricular activities, the life on the road, the life of celebrity, and because he was a bigger guy, it was tougher for him to carry it all. Last year he and I and a couple other buddies went to the [Tampa Bay] Bucs game, and Bam Bam had taken a couple of standing eight counts, but he was still answering the bell.

Personally I'm saddened that my buddy isn't here. The best way I can represent him is to go say goodbye to him in person, even though he isn't going to be here anymore.
