Charles A. Walls Jr., a Lonoke County attorney and farmer, died Dec. 17, 2001.

He was the wodower of Connie Collins Walls. He was a officer in the U.S. Army and the O.S.S. on African and Italian fronts during World War II. Following the war, he served in the Judge Advocate General Corps and represented the U.S. Army in the Italian war criminal trials.

A descendant of an Arkansas pioneer family, with roots dating back to the Revolutionary War, he retured to Lonoke County to practice law and manage the family farms after the death of his father. He was awared the Distinguished Lawyer Award for 50 years of practice by the Arkansas Bar Association. He was appointed special judge to serve on the Arkansas Supreme Court and additionally serviced as city attorney for Lonoke, Carlisle and was a member of the Lonoke County Quorum Court. In 1995 he was appointed to serve as circuit/chancery judge for the newly formed 17th Judicial District West.

He was a member of the Lonoke Baptist Church and taught a men's Sunday School class over 40 years. He was a member of the Arkansas Bar Association, a 32nd Degree Mason in the Lonoke Masonic Lodge. He served on the Lonoke School Board for 25 years and was a member of the Kiwanis Club. Chamber of Commerce and Lonoke Industrial Commission.

He is survived by two children; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Funeral will be held at 10.a.m. Dec. 20, at the Baptist Church in Lonoke; csh12/19/2001

She was a member of Tomberlin United Methodist Church, where she was a Bible Study Fellowship leader and retired teacher of United Methodist Women.

He received numerous commendations and awards for bravery, heroism and inspirational leadership. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Searcy.

Fannie E. Watson, 88, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at her home.

She was a lifetime resident of the Brownsville Community, and a member of Brownsville Assembly of God Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years.

She was a retired school teacher having taught along with her sister, Alice, at Union School in Furlow, Julia Shannon Elementary School in Stuttgart, and was the principal of Grand Prairie Private School in Stuttgart. She received a bachelor's degree from Conway and earned a masters degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

She is survived by her brothers, Ralph Watson of Lonoke, and many Nieces and Nephews.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Brownsville Assembly of God Church, with interment at Brownsville Cemetery by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke; csh12/12/2001

Charles Lynn Weems, 72, of Hazen died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002.

He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and of the U.of A. poultry judging team.

Charles took his commission in the Army and served in Korea where, after commanding troops in battle, he went on loan to the Air force and had 72 combat missions as an aerial observer.

After his tour of duty was over, he retured home wherre he engaged in farming until he retired three years ago. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was Sunday School superintendent and a Sunday School teacher. He was post Master of Hazen Masonic Lodge, past Patron of Hazen Chapter #5, Order of the Eastern Star, a former member of the boards of Prairie County Farm Bureau and Prairie Farmers and a member of the Grand Prairie Cattlemen's Association.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Christine "Chirs" Smith Weems; one sister, Mary Kittler of Carlisle.

He was a retired Chevy-Oldsmobile dealer in Hazen and Malvern. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was involved in improving the progress of Hazen and Malvern by helping develop the sewer System and paving the city streets of Hazen and by widening Highway 270 fro Malvern to Hot Springs from two to four lanes. He was a member of The Chamber of Commerce of Malvern, many city clubs, and the building committee for the First United Methodist Church of Malvern. He was known for providing cars to the contestants of the Miss Arkansas pageants and one year gave 50 Oldsmobile convertibles.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Osborne Westerfield; three daughters, Sharlene Tullos of Cabot, Rhonda DeJarnatt of Van Buren, Aria Westerfield of Little Rock; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-sons, Jeff McDOnald of Los Angeles, Calif., and Bob McDonald of Little Rock.

WhittenburgHermanHerman Louis Whittenburg, 60, of North Little Rock died Jan. 14, 1999.

He was a Navy veteran and worked at J.B. Hunt.

Survivors include a son, Cricket Whittenburg; his mother and stepfather, Helen Whittenburg Bray and Sonny Bray of DeValls Bluff; four brothers, Fred Whittenburg and Leslie Whittenburg, both of Lonoke, Alfred Whittenburg of Missouri and Jerry Whittenburg of Cabot; a sister, Bonnie Mackey of Carlisle; and grandchidren.

Funeral was Jan. 16 at Boyd Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Hebron Cemetery.; csh1/20/99
