1. Re: Intel RST installation incorrectly sets hard drive media type Windows 8.1 Pro x64
sylvia_intel Oct 3, 2014 9:58 AM (in response to s_b_o_s)hello s_b_o_s, we have received comments from other users experiencing issues with the new version of the RST. We already sent this information to the Engineering team, and they are working on it.
Please install version 12.9 Intel® Download Center and let me know the results.

2. Re: Intel RST installation incorrectly sets hard drive media type Windows 8.1 Pro x64
s_b_o_s Oct 3, 2014 5:45 PM (in response to sylvia_intel)Hello Sylvia,
I have installed ver 12.8.0.1016 and it works like it should. Media type is detected as hard drives. Analyse and optimise options are available and work correctly.
I haven't tried version 12.9. I am reluctant to try this version now that everything is working with 12.8
Hopefully the engineering team can correct this problem in a timely manner.
Thanks for your help.

s_b_o_s Oct 5, 2014 8:12 PM (in response to s_b_o_s)For the record tried version 12.9 and it works also.
Looks like its version 13 with the problem.
Kind Regards

5. Re: Intel RST installation incorrectly sets hard drive media type Windows 8.1 Pro x64
DarWunder Oct 29, 2014 2:31 PM (in response to s_b_o_s)I am so glad I found this post. I have two RAID-0 HDD arrays, one of which Windows 8.1 x64 detects as a SSD instead of a HDD. I'd about googled myself out trying to find the root of the problem. Everything I found relates to the opposite problem of a SSD being detected as a HDD. I started posting in the TechNet forums hoping to get direction on how to manually override windows drive detection. After they pointed me to a number of third-party links that weren't actually related to my problem, one of the techs suggested uninstalling the RST drivers. I wasn't sure that was good advice, as last time I did that my system wouldn't boot and/or I lost my RAID arrays. So I googled to see if there was a method to remove the drivers safely. And that lead me to here.
Anyway, I currently have the 13 series RST drivers installed. Rolling back to 12.9 to fix the Raid-0 HDD array detection issue is not an option, as those drivers resulted in a BSOD when cleaning my SSD boot drive with the SSD toolbox utility.
I should also point out that if I blow-up the problematic array and install the drives individually, they are both detected as HDDs. But if I recreate the RAID-0 array it is once again detected as a SSD.

6. Re: Intel RST installation incorrectly sets hard drive media type Windows 8.1 Pro x64
Alessio89 Nov 12, 2014 10:32 AM (in response to DarWunder)I had the same issue with 13.x series RST drivers: 2x HDD RAID-0 detected as SSD by Windows. I had to roll back to 12.9 to fix it.

DarWunder Jan 16, 2015 11:53 AM (in response to s_b_o_s)Is there an update on a resolution to this issue that isn't "rollback to a pre 13.x version"?

Alessio89 Feb 27, 2015 2:53 AM (in response to s_b_o_s)RST 13.5.2.1000 does NOT solve this issue. I'm still using version 12.9.0.1001

9. Re: Intel RST installation incorrectly sets hard drive media type Windows 8.1 Pro x64
DarWunder Mar 4, 2015 1:52 PM (in response to Alessio89)Just in case others are thinking of trying the Beta RST 14.0.0.1081 drivers that are floating around out there to see if they resolve this issue, I can save you some time. They do not (or at least they did not for me).

atabrk Jul 17, 2015 2:24 PM (in response to s_b_o_s)Even Windows 10 Insider Preview's native drivers (provided by Intel) causes this issue.

s_b_o_s Aug 10, 2015 12:35 AM (in response to sylvia_intel)Sylvia,
How is the intel engineering team going with this issue.
I have installed Windows 10 and the problem still exists with RST ver 14.5.0.1081
Kind regards
