There are basically two heavy hitters when it comes to hardware for building mesh nodes: Linksys and Ubiquiti. Older versions of several Linksys devices support HSMM firmware providing both a local router for four hardwire (Ethernet) connections and connectivity to the wireless mesh network. Ubiquiti makes devices generally suitable for long-haul connections (think WAN and MAN circuits).
