|FORMER Port Vale striker Marcus Bent has reportedly been charged with affray and possession of a Class A drug.
Surrey Police confirmed that they were forced to use a Taser at a home in Esher, Surrey, on Sunday after officers were threatened at around 9.30pm.
Bent – who made 23 appearances for Vale in 1998-99 after signing for £300,000 from Crystal Palace – is currently on bail.
He will appear at North Surrey Magistrates' Court later this month.
Now 37, Bent was one of John Rudge's last signings at Vale Park before he was sacked and replaced by Brian Horton.
Bent was sold to Sheffield United for £375,000 at the end of his first and only season in Burslem.
He enjoyed a nomadic career racking up total transfer fees of more than £10m and playing in the Premier League for clubs including Blackburn, Ipswich and Everton - and turning out for a raft of others - before ending his career with Indonesian side Mitra Kukar in 2012.
A police spokesman said: "A 37-year-old man has been charged with affray and the possession of a Class A drug following an incident in Esher on Sunday (September 13).
"Police attended a residential property at around 9.30pm. Officers were threatened with weapons when at the location and a Taser was deployed.
"Marcus Bent of Claremont Lane, Esher is currently on bail. He is due to appear at North Surrey Magistrates Court in Staines on Wednesday, 30 September 2015."
Since his playing career in 2012, Bent went to work in the oil industry while waiting for approaches from clubs, the Daily Mail reports.
Marcus Bent celebrates a goal with Vale legend Martin Foyle.
