BUBBLY weather presenter Keeley Donovan is whipping up a storm as the new host of a national TV show.

Keeley, a familiar face on BBC Look North, is fronting Break-in Britain, a programme that helps traumatised homeowners recover from burglaries.

The 15-part series will begin on BBC One next Monday.

"It was really interesting to work on something so different from what I normally do," she told the Mail.

"We went out to see people almost from the moment of devastation when they have been burgled.

"It is a mix of seeing people at their most vulnerable and seeing them build themselves up. It is about making them feel safe again."

Break-in Britain, which co-stars Dan Donnelly, of The One Show, offers people emotional support and practical advice on how to stay protected in their own homes.

The programme-makers worked closely with West Yorkshire Police to explore the details of break-ins and how homeowners can better protect themselves.

Keeley, who is originally from Grimsby and spent many years living in Hull, said most residents were less concerned about the items they had lost, than the fact that a stranger had invaded their home.

"Some of them were really, really upset," she said.

"Speaking to some of the people in the show, it was not about what had been taken – it was about the fact that someone had been in their home.

"I think the main thing was taking their mind off it."

Among the victims featured on the show are a 95-year-old woman who was burgled while in respite care, and a single mum-of-three whose children's games were stolen.

Break-in Britain will also feature officers taking part in Operation Optimal, a project in which computer technology is used to identify the areas burglars are likely to target next, with police then sent to stop them.

Although Keeley says she is excited about making her national TV debut, the outlook is still bright for her meteorological career.

"I really do love doing the weather. I would really like to keep doing that for Look North as well as other things.

"My plan is to definitely stay living and working in this area, near my home in Grimsby.

"But I would love to do the national forecast and there are so many great programmes I enjoy, like Countryfile; it would be amazing being out on the farm. I'm a big fan of that show."

The new series of Break-in Britain will be on BBC One every weekday morning for three weeks from next Monday.

What is Break In Britain's loss is Look North's gain. Or maybe I have got it the wrong way around - it's been a long day.

The more I see her on TV, the happier I get. She deserves more than 30 seconds every few hours.
