Acclaimed Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli ("Spirited Away," "Ponyo," "Howl's Moving Castle") has announced its next feature will be a film adaptation of Mary Norton's fantasy classic "The Borrowers" says Ghibli World.
The 1952 novel centers on a family of little people who live by "borrowing" from normal-sized humans. The film will be released in Japan in the Summer under the title "Karigurashi no Arrietty" (Arrietty Borrows Everything).
Studio animator Hiromasa Yonebayashi will serve as director, his first film in the big chair. Ghibli head honcho Hayao Miyazaki will supervise.
The studio is also currently working on "Taketori monogatari" (The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter) with Isao Takahata ("Grave of the Fireflies," "My Neighbors the Yamadas") directing.
Miyazaki himself has not announced his next projects despite signing on several months to direct two more for the studio over the next three years.
