On 21 July, Eintracht Frankfurt played a test match in front of 1,500 spectators in Eugendorf. This time, the Eagles’ opponents were English second division club Leeds United FC, coached by German-born Uwe Rösler. Read here how the match went.

Eintracht, who were led on the field by Japanese international Makoto Hasebe, were the dominant team from the outset, creating numerous goal-scoring chances. Three minutes into the game, Inui fired a first shot from outside of the box, but LUFC keeper Silvestri had no trouble catching the ball. Shortly afterwards, Seferovic took a cross volley, but missed the goal. Then, Hasebe passed the ball to Aigner who came close to scoring, but was denied by Silvestri (8’). The next goal-scoring chance resulted out of a free-kick by Oczipka, but Aigner’s volley went wide (12’). One minute later, an Aigner goal was denied by the referee due to an offside position.

Leeds, on the other hand, seldom appeared in front of the Eagles’ goal. When they did, their last pass was lacking precision.

Unfortunately, Castaignos had to leave the field because of a thigh injury 20 minutes into the game. Eintracht youngster Waldschmidt came in for the Dutchman. Only seconds later, Inui fired a shot that crashed against the bar. It was really unfortunate that Eintracht missed so many chances, because with 27 minutes on the clock, Leeds showed the Frankfurters how things are done in terms of efficiency. With an Eintracht defender tumbling, Morison, who had picked up a low cross in the box, had no trouble firing beyond Lindner – 1-0 for LUFC.

Before the halftime whistle, Inui had another great opportunity to score. However, Eintracht’s Japanese left-winger only hit the post from a narrow angle after Aigner had passed the ball to him (32’).

Second Half: SGE fight back

With 49 minutes into the game, Seferovic came close to scoring, but only hit the side netting after Waldschmidt’s beautiful set-up. Four minutes later, Lindner had to show all his skills to prevent Cook, who suddenly appeared unmarked in front of Eintracht’s goal, from making it 2-0.

After another great chance by Inui, Eintracht – finally – found the back of the net. Aigner headed a free-kick by Oczipka back into the six-yard box, where Flum stood spot-on and leveled the tie (59’). 15 minutes later, Eintracht even took the lead when Gerezgiher passed the ball into the box, where Reinartz, with the assistance of Kadlec, succeeded in putting the ball behind the goal-line.

Due to the high temperature and a lot of substitutions, the flow of play suffered a bit in the final minutes of the game. Nevertheless, Eintracht showed a decent performance on the whole. Eintracht Head Coach Veh said after the mach, "I am quite happy with our performance today. But we need to make more of our scoring chances."

Eintracht’s next friendly against Fulham FC will take place in Petutschnig-Arena in Irdning (Austria) on 25 July at 16.30 CET.
