DUMBARTON and Partick Thistle served up a goalless draw to a noisy set of supporters, on the final day of the First Division season.

Manager Ian Murray made three changes to The Sons line up for the game against the league champions, with Jamie Ewings replacing Stephen Grindlay in between the posts, James Creaney stepping in for the injured Alan Lithgow and Bryan Prunty coming in for top scorer Jim Lister.

The Jags were applauded onto the pitch by Dumbarton players, management and fans before the game with both sets of supporters in a party mood for different reasons.

The champions started on the front foot, with Christie Elliot looking lively for the visitors, and Ewings got down well to hold a shot from the Thistle striker.

Dumbarton had a half chance for themselves halfway through the opening 45, with Chris Turner playing a long pass to St Mirren loanee Paul McGinn.

McGinn went on a trademark bomb down the right hand wing, before cutting in and shooting, only to see his effort saved by Glenn Daniels in the Jags goal.

The last and best chance of the first-half fell to Dumbarton's Scott Agnew, who twisted and turned inside the area before firing a shot on-target which beat Daniels, however, it was cleared off the line by Jags defender Conrad Balatoni.

There was a half-time sub for Dumbarton with Nicky Phinn replacing captain Andy Graham and the Sons started brightly with three corners in-a-row testing the Thistle back-line.

Mark Gilhaney had a chance for the home side as the ball broke to him 18 yards out, however, the midfielder could only fire over.

Partick Thistle looked dangerous at set pieces, with one free-kick from Aaron Sinclair flashing just wide, and Ewings doing well to hold another.

Dumbarton came inches away from breaking the deadlock as Agnew advanced with the ball, before shooting across Daniels from 20 yards and beating him again, only to see his effort crash off the post this time around.

Top scorer and fan's favourite Jim Lister replaced the hard-working Garry Fleming and Motherwell loanee Adam Asghar came on for Chris Turner as the Sons looked to freshen things up.

However, it was Thistle who were back on the attack as Aaron Sinclair cut in and fired goalwards, only to see his effort deflected just wide of the target.

Nick Phinn had one last chance for Dumbarton with a speculative volley which Daniels held well and that was the last of the action.

It was a good way to end a memorable season for Dumbarton, with a point against the league champions and seventh place finish in the league.
