Customers may have experienced an increase latency and packet loss due to a fault in our upstream providers network.

Technical Summary:

Due to a fault in our upstream providers network, customers located in Australia may have been experiencing an increase in latency to some Asian destinations.

Resolution:

iiNet engineers are working with our upstream provider on this issue, and further updates will be posted as more information comes to hand.

UPDATE 17/12/2012 03:10AM: Our upstream provider have set a tentative ETR of 20/12/2012

UPDATE 20/12/1202 04:00PM: Due to the complexity of the fault, a precise ETR is difficult to ascertain and has been adjusted. Communication with our upstream provider continues.

Update 21/12/2012 14:40PM: Our upstream provider has advised that the cable has been cut in two locations. Repairs have been completed on one break. The cable ship is currently in transit to the site of the second break.

Update 27/12/2012 14:14PM: Our upstream provider has provided us with a revised ETR for 07/01/2013.

Update 07/01/2013 13:45PM: Our upstream provider has advised that technicians are continuing to investigate this fault condition. A revised ETR for 28/01/2013 has been provided.

Update 10/01/2013 12:40PM: Another segment of cable which lies 1100km from Singapore towards Perth has been cut. Engineers have routed traffic to reduce impact. No ETA is available at this stage. The ETA of the 28th of January for the Sydney to Hong Kong segment still remains.

Update 28/01/2013 03:30PM: Our upstream provider is still working on this issue. Updates will be provided as they become available.

Update 29/01/2013 05:30PM: An ETR of the 19th of February has been provided by our upstream provider for the cable cut, Singapore towards Perth. Further updates will be provided as available.

Update 07/02/2013 12:05PM: The Sydney to Hong Kong segment has now been repaired. Further works to restore the Perth to Singapore segment and result in full restoration are still underway.

Update 14/02/2013 16:00PM WST: The cable ship performing these repairs is now onsite in Singapore. Cable works will be underway once relevant permits have been granted by Indonesian authorities.

Update 22/02/2013 15:30PM WST: Our wholesale partner is investigating the issue. Updates will be provided as they become available.

Update 24/02/2013 15:15PM WST: Repair works have not yet been undertaken. Updated dates for repairs will be available this coming week.

Update 27/02/2013 17:45PM WST: An ETR is unavailable from our wholesale partner. Updates will be provided as they become available.

Update 03/03/2013 15:30PM WST: The cable ship operator has advised that the required permit to undertake works has not been granted. A tentative repair date is still unavailable.

Update 06/03/2013 17:30PM WST: We are still awaiting an ETR from our wholesale partner.

Update 27/03/2013 17:45PM WST: Our wholesale partner is working on restoration. Currently, an ETR is unavailable.
