You'll Have to Find Food and Water to Survive in PS4's Mad Max, Plus More Dusty Gameplay Details

Posted by Robert Ramsey

Hope you like eating rats

Mad Max recently had the misfortune of clashing its big re-reveal with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's leaked release date, but that hasn't stopped a heck of a lot more details regarding the post-apocalyptic adventure from surfacing.

In the newest issue of Game Informer, the publication reveals plenty about the title's gameplay. For starters, you'll need to eat and drink to keep Max alive while you're out exploring the wasteland, which, we suppose, kind of makes the PlayStation 4 release a bit of a survival simulator. You'll also come across Dog early in the game, who'll help you by sniffing out resources.

Meanwhile, developer Avalanche seems focussed on making this an enjoyable driving game, so you'll mostly be zooming about the desert in a customised vehicle, rather than marching across it on foot. When you are on foot, however, combat is apparently reminiscent of the Batman: Arkham games, featuring combos, dodges, and counters.

Elsewhere, things sound a bit less interesting. Your nemesis is the hilariously named Scrotus, a wasteland warlord. You'll need to conquer his outposts, which are dotted around the barren locale, in order to dampen his influence. Haven't heard that one before, have we?

Gameplay clichés aside, it all sounds reasonably promising, and we're sure it won't be long until we get a look at some in-game footage. Are you excited? Rev your engines in the comments section below.

Sounds good to me, I found the hardcore mode in Fallout New Vegas fairly easy though, if its anything similar.

Sounds good, tack on a few more hours with the need for realistic survival.

Considering that this was announced at E3 2013, there's been nothing about it until this week. I have a feeling it won't be anything special.

Saw the trailer for the new movie last weekend when I went to see Jupiter Ascending (yes, it's as bad as they say) and while the movie and game may not be related, I do have very low expectations for both.

Forgot to mention how there is no 'border' so to speak...just like gta you can drive as much as you want but at some point it'll become much, much harder to find food and water to stay alive and enemies will be tougher, thankfully though you can find unique and rare car parts out in the farther wasteland

I probably won't be getting this. It's out the same day as MGS5, and I'm not that interested in it.

I would need to see a gameplay video to get excited about this.

And no, it has nothing to do with the release date.

These games based on movies are rarely anygood, Goldeneye aside. I do think this sounds interesting and it could have potential, but I guess only time will tell. Fingers crossed!

Exactly!

I am a fan of the first 2 movies, Mad Max & The Road Warrior (Thunderdome sucked) & have seen them many times. Never did I see any scene where Mel Gibson was kicking people's a$$ the way Batman does in the Arkham games. That is completely ridiculous.

This game is going to suck. Badly.

Had to look up what Avalanche studios worked on, the makers of just cause have a high chance of doing this right, was worried this would be about the same quality as the rambo game.

I've never been a fan of this type of gameplay. I don't think video game characters should get hungry or tired. That's just not fun to me. Are we going to make games where the protagonist has the urge to go to the bathroom, all in terms of making it realistic? If the man's gotta eat eventually the man's gotta drop a deuce as well.
