Welcome to the Romantic Novelists' Association

Welcome to the website of the Romantic Novelists’ Association (RNA). Romance is the most popular genre of fiction. According to our research, more than ninety per cent of all readers like to see a bit of romance in the books they read—men as well as women.

The RNA was formed in 1960 to promote romantic fiction and to encourage good writing and now represents more than 700 writers, agents, editors and other publishing professionals.

Please look around the site. You can find out more about us and what we do, the awards we make and our latest news. Please check out the activities we have planned, and if you wish, join us. Our features pages will contain regularly updated craft tips and interviews with some of the most popular authors in our genre. You could also head over to the RNA Blog, for an informal, personal chat with our writers.

We hope you enjoy your visit—and do come back again!

Welcome

Eileen Ramsay, RNA Chair writes:

Recently, in a room in London, I sat with other like-minded writers and listened, while Eloisa James, an American Professor of English literature, an expert on the works of Shakespeare, and other greats, spoke about writing romantic novels. I envy her students. She was knowledgeable, articulate and funny. The professor was a guest of the Romantic Novelists Association, the association of which I am now proud to be Chair and which I joined several years ago, after being told by the late, great Hugh Rae (Jessica Stirling) that I ought to belong to such a professional organization.  I have never regretted listening to his advice. The skill-sharing, the sharing of information, the willingness to help, the fun and friendship, are legendary.

If you are a romantic novelist, at any stage of your career, do join us. Who knows, some day other writers may sit and learn from you.
