Beaumont
In 1581 Administration was granted of the goods of Thomas Beaumont of Whiston to Alice Stringer alias Beaumont his mother.
Elizabeth, daughter of Michael Wentworth, of Woolley m2. in 1619 to Thomas Beaumont, of Mirfield, son of Richard Beaumont who was guardian to her five daughters.
Ann, 2nd wife, of William Oates, was daughter of Thomas Beaumont of Castle Hill in Mirfield, Gent. ; bp. at Mirfield 25 Feb. 1609 ; mar. there 9 Nov. 1630. Settlement dated 25 Oct. preceding. Will dated 2 Oct. 1663 ; proved at York 27 Jan. following. She is mentioned as mar. in her father's will 1632, who mentions also his sons John, Richard, and Edward Beaumont. She d. a rich widow, and was bur. at Kirk-heaton 5 Dec.1663.
Beaumont of Whitley Hall
Sir Thomas Beaumont (1605-1668), son of Richard Beaumont, of Lascelles Hall, was appointed Deputy Governor of
Sheffield Castle by Sir William Saville. He was on the Royalist side in the Civil Wars. The Beaumont Papers give details. His wife was Elizabeth, daughter of Gregory Armytage, of Netherton,
by Elizabeth, daughter and co-heiress of John Savile, of the same place. They were married at Hartshead, September,
1626. His son Adam was baptised Hartshead 16 March 1631.
Adam Beaumont(1631-1655) married Elizabeth daughter of Ralph Ashton of Middleton, Lancs. Children: Richard, Elizabeth, Anne. Adam died Nov 13 1655 and was buried at Kirkheaton. His will dated 12 Nov 1655 was proved by his widow.

Sir Thomas' daughter Sarah married Robert Wrightson. He was succeeded by his grandson, Richard Beaumont of Whitley Beaumont, who m. 2nd October, 1676, Frances, daughter of Sir William Lowther, of Swillington, in Yorkshire, and dying in 1691, left an only surviving child, Richard Beaumont, esq. of Whitley Beaumont, b. 2nd September, 1677, who m. 11th June, 1699, Katherine, only dau. and heir of Thomas Stringer, esq. of Sharleston, but by her, (who m. secondly, Thomas Fane, having no issue, the estates passed at his decease, 27th June, 1704, to the eldest son of his great uncle, Richard Beaumont, of Lascelles Hall, his cousin.
Richard Beaumont(b.1670) of Lascelles Hall m.1700 Suzannah Horton of Barkisland. They had issue including Frances b.1704 who married in 1723, George Beaumont, esq. of the Oaks, in Darton. The great grandson of this marriage was Thomas Wentworth Beaumont of Bretton Hall and Hexham Abbey, M.P. for Northumberland
Beaumont of Darton
George Beaumont, a younger son of Thomas Beaumont of Flockton, acquired property in Darton, Yorkshire, and died in 1664, succeeded by his youngest son William, who in 1662 had married Jane, daughter of William Milner of Burton Grange . William was buried at Darton, 18 December 1713, and was succeeded by his grandson George, born circa 1696, who in 1723 married Frances, daughter of Richard Beaumont, esq. (1670-1723) of Lascelles Hall and Whitley.
Mary, dau. of George Beaumont of Darton mar. 18 June 1657 before Mr Franke, J.P. to Jonathan Shaw of Hall-broom, (bur. at Bradfield 15 Dec. 1693,Left Hall-broom to his nephew Joseph Shaw by will dated 1693). The daughter Sarah Shaw m2. in 1690 toJohn Stacy of Ballifield
William and Jane Beaumont (Nee Milner) had several issue including:
- George, of Chapel Thorpe, who pre deceased his father, and was buried at Darton, in June, 1712, He had married Gertrude, daughter of John Bagshaw of Hucklow, Derbyshire.
George and Gertrude had 2 sons and six daughters. Eldest son, George, was heir to his grand father.
George and Frances Beaumont had 2 sons and a daughter:
- Thomas(1723-1783) his successor born Whitley, 18th February, 1723. m. Anne Ayscough
- George (1726-1773), in holy orders, rector of St. Nicholas, Notts, m. Elizabeth, daughter of John Green, of Leeds, merchant, and died 17th May, 1773
- Susanna(d.1804), m. Rev. John Walter, rector of Bingham, Notts
George died 27th January, 1736, was buried at Darton, and succeeded by his elder son, Thomas Beaumont of the Oaks
Beaumont of Barnby
A branch of the Beaumonts were at Barnby from about 1620
All Saints Church Darton contains monuments to the families of Silvester and Beaumont. George Beaumont, a merchant of Darton Hall,in 1668 bequeathed £500 for the support of a free school, and £500 to the poor which benefactions were applied to the purchase of an estate. Thomas Beaumont, in 1728 bequeathed £112 to the poor of Darton, and £150 to the poor of Crigglestone. There is a copy of the George Beaumont bequest for maintaining a school at Darton in the 1772-1812 register. Three generations of the Beaumont family are buried in the church, cast iron memorial slabs are covered by a wooden floor in the Beaumont Chapel, now known as the Lady Chapel. Read more
