The 2002 Interactive Achievement awards show in Las Vegas last week proved to be a battleground for video game competitors.
Games set in and around World War II dominated the sixth annual awards show, taking home nearly a third of the 31 trophies, including game of the year for the first-person shooter "Battlefield 1942."
"Battlefield's" publisher, Electronic Arts, was the big winner with a total of 13 awards, including computer sports game of the year and console sports game of the year ("Madden 2003") and console racing game of the year ("Hot Pursuit 2").
Nintendo garnered seven wins. Its game "Animal Crossing" took home three awards, including innovation in console gaming. …
