TWO Kilkenny restaurants have been awarded Michelin stars in the latest Michelin guide, which was released this morning.
The two restaurants, Campagne and Lady Helen at the Mount Juliet Hotel, both made their debuts on the list, which features seven other Irish restaurants.
Gareth Byrne of Campage said on 2FM this morning that he only found out that his restaurant had won when his phone started ringing this morning.
“The phone went mad this morning and I looked at the official guide and I was delighted to see it. It hasn’t sunk in yet, but to have two Michelin starred restaurants in Kilkenny is absolutely fantastic.”
Cormac Rowe, the executive chef of Mount Juliet, said he was also unaware that the award was coming until he started to receive tweets this morning.
“I heard it this morning on Twitter. It’s still sinking in, but I’m so proud of the team.”
The only Irish restaurant with two stars is Patrick Guilbaud’s on Merrion Row in Dublin. , Chapter One, L’Ecrivain and bon appétit in Malahide and Thornton’s at the Fitzwilliam Hotel also retained their status.
House at the Cliff House Hotel in Waterford and Aniar in Galway also received Michelin stars.
