Future History

One of the Macrae trademark styles is the detailed description of forecast events written from the point of view of future historians. He describes the sequence of events, the participants and the forces and influences that shaped the future society with astonishing accuracy. Even when the detail is wrong (as in his prediction of a Labour Victory at the 1992 Election) he delivers on the broad themes - the mass closure of mines once the Electicity companies were allowed to use gas in generation and on-going privatisations, even by parties and politicians formerly opposed to it.

The following articles describe changes in society, business, technology and learning and are based on Macrae's work at the Economist and his book, the 2024 Report.
