Chairs
Chairs should be carefully chosen to ensure that they suit the venue. Most venues will supply one style of chairs, but a wide variety is available for hire at a range of prices.
The cheapest and most usual are standard gold or silver banqueting chairs with velvet seat pads.
Bamboo-like, ladder-backed chivari chairs are an elegant option. They come in different colours, from a modern black or silver to a romantic ivory or soft pink. Sleek high-backed dining chairs may suit a modern wedding.
Fabric covers can be hired separately and paired with organza ribbons in a themed colour. They make an excellent first impression but are an added expense. The downside, too, is that they quickly look messy once sat in or if the ribbons become dislodged.
Tables
When the reception meal is being planned, the size of tables and style of chairs should be considered. The shape of the venue may dictate the shape and size of the tables.
Rectangular tables or one long banqueting table that seats the whole wedding can look modern and impressive.
Don't forget extra tables will be required for the bar, cake and presents. Also, a table may be required if table place cards are being used instead of a seating plan display board. It is also useful to supply occasional tables for the drinks reception, where guests can leave discarded glasses.
5' round tables seat 8-10 people; 5'6" round table seat 8-11 people; 6' round tables seat 10-12 people. The smallest round tables, however, which seat eight to ten, are the most sociable.
Whether the tables are square, rectangular or round, full-sized tablecloths that come down to the floor should be used.
