Participant guide

The 2015 Bank of America Chicago Marathon participant guide includes all the key information participants will need in order to be prepared for and ready to have a great race experience. This guide will serve as a step-by-step manual to assist participants during race week, from the Abbott Health & Fitness Expo, to race morning in Grant Park and during the race itself.

Official program

Can’t wait to get a peek of the 2015 Bank of America Chicago Marathon official program? The wait is over, the official program is now available at select stores and fitness clubs throughout the Chicago area (wherever Chicago Athlete Magazine is distributed). Click here to view the program online.

All registered participants will receive a copy of the official program in their participant bag at the Abbott Health & Fitness Expo.

Age groups and awards

Participants will compete in the following male and female age groups: 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & over.

Personal engraved finish medals will be awarded to the top five finishers in the above age groups.

Nike+ Pace Teams

Nike+ Pace Teams are comprised of marathon veterans who help others achieve their performance goals. Nike+ Pace Team Leaders will pace groups of runners according to the following finish times: 3:00, 3:05, 3:10, 3:15, 3:20, 3:25, 3:30, 3:35, 3:40, 3:45, 3:50, 3:55, 4:00, 4:10, 4:25, 4:30, 4:40, 4:55, 5:00, 5:10, 5:25 and 5:45. Team competition

Take your performance to the next level by forming a team and participating in the team competition. The Bank of America Chicago Marathon team competition is free and open to all runners, running club members, groups of friends, co-workers and corporate teams. The team competition offers two divisions: red for competitive teams and blue, for runners of all abilities. The team competition offers male, female, mixed, and masters categories, as well as combined finish time and age-graded scoring. MolexInformation presented by Molex

Information presented by Molex will be available throughout Grant Park on race day. Information Tents will be available to assist participants and spectators with event information, course maps and general event inquiries as well as lost and found items. Information Tents will be located in the following areas:

  • On the east side of Michigan Avenue at 11th Street
  • On the east side of Michigan Avenue at Harrison Street
  • On the east side of Michigan Avenue at Jackson Drive
  • Within the Buckingham Fountain Gear Check facility (participant only Information Tent)
  • North side of Jackson Drive between Columbus Drive and Lake Shore Drive
  • On the northwest corner of Congress Parkway and Columbus Drive

In addition to the six Information Tents, Information Teams of 2 to 4 individuals will be positioned throughout Grant Park and on Michigan Avenue on race morning to assist participants and spectators with maps and viewing tips.

Bank of America Chicago Marathon
27th Mile Post-Race Party

As soon as you cross the finish line, celebrate your achievement at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon 27th Mile Post-Race Party located in Grant Park’s Butler Field. The outdoor celebration will feature live entertainment, and participant’s age 21 and over (photo ID required) can redeem the tear-off portion of their bib number for one free 312 Urban Wheat Ale. Additional food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Runner Reunite area
Bank of America Chicago Marathon participants are encouraged to reunite with your family and friends after the race at the Runner Reunite area of the 27th Mile Post-Race Party. The Runner Reunite area will be organized by alphabetical signs (A-Z) to facilitate meeting locations by name. When making plans to reunite with your family and friends, factor in the necessary time it will take for you to navigate through the finish area and collect your bag from gear check. Also, be sure to devise a back-up plan in the event that you cannot locate your party within Grant Park.

Massage therapy
More than 200 students, faculty and alumni from Chicago’s Cortiva Institute will offer complimentary post-race massage treatments for runners. The Massage Tent will be located within the 27th Mile Post-Race Party at the southwest corner, adjacent to the Petrillo Band Shell.

Race day runner results
Participants and spectators can view finisher results at the Race Day Runner Results Tent within the 27th Mile Post-Race Party. Volunteers will be on-hand to help you look up unofficial race day results.

Continue your post-race celebration with 312Goose-Island

312 Urban Wheat Ale is proud to set the pace for race day refreshment in Chicago. Join Goose Island immediately after the race to enjoy a 312 Urban Wheat Ale at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon 27th Mile Post-Race Party in Grant Park’s Butler Field.

After the 27th Mile Post-Race Party, continue the celebration at one of the five 312 Post-Race Participant Celebrations throughout the city. Be one of the first three hundred twelve runners to arrive wearing their 2015 finisher medal at any of the five locations and the first 312 Urban Wheat Ale is on the house!
