Local leaders inducted into Raleigh Hall of Fame

Raleigh, N.C. — Thirteen individuals and two organizations were inducted into the Raleigh Hall of Fame on Thursday night at the Raleigh Convention Center.

Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker honored the following residents for their contributions to the community:

• Business leadership  icon and education advocate Sherwood H. Smith, Jr.
• Historic preservationist Mabel J. Dorsey
• Dr. Powell Graham "P.G." Fox, Jr.
• Civil rights leader Clarence Everett Lightner, who was Raleigh's first black mayor
• Business leader James Marion Poyner
• Karl Grier Hudson, Jr., a business and civic leader and philanthropist
• Margaret Rose Murray, founder of Vital Link Private School for children with disabilities
• Victor E. Bell, Jr., an advocate for civil rights
• Cyrus B. & Carolyn S. King, human rights advocates
• Civic leader Richard Alexander Urquhart, Jr.
• Betty Lee Tiddy Moore & C. Durham Moore, Jr., co-founders of the Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities
• Rotary Club of Raleigh
• YMCA of the Triangle, Inc.
