Captain America: Civil War

Marvel Studios Begins Production on Marvel's 'Captain America: Civil War'

Learn more about the upcoming film in theaters May 6, 2016!

Marvel Studios has commenced principal photography at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia on “Captain America: Civil War,” the third installment of its Super Hero franchise. The production will shoot on location in Atlanta, Georgia, which serves as the base for the film’s production, as well as locations in Germany, Puerto Rico and Iceland.

Set for release in the United States on May 6, 2016, “Captain America: Civil War” is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Community”) from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (“Captain America: The Winter Solider,” Marvel’s “Captain America: The First Avenger”). The film returns Chris Evans (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron”) as the iconic Super Hero character Steve Rogers/Captain America along with Robert Downey Jr. (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Marvel’s “Iron Man 3”) as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Sebastian Stan (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain America: The First Avenger”) as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Iron Man 3”) as The Vision, Jeremy Renner (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Marvel’s “The Avengers”) as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Iron Man 3”) as Jim Rhodes/War Machine and Elizabeth Olsen (“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Godzilla”) as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.

After his debut in Marvel’s “Ant-Man” on July 17, 2015, Paul Rudd (“Ant-Man,” ”Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues”) will make his first appearance alongside the Avengers as Scott Lang/Ant-Man in “Captain America: Civil War.”

The film also includes outstanding additional cast, including Chadwick Boseman (“42,” “Get on Up”) as T’Challa/Black Panther, Emily VanCamp (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Revenge”) as Sharon Carter/Agent 13, Daniel Brühl (“Inglourious Basterds,” “Bourne Ultimatum”), Frank Grillo (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Warrior”) as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones, William Hurt (“A History of Violence,” Marvel’s “The Incredible Hulk”) as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross and Martin Freeman (“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies”).

“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” is produced by Marvel Studios’ president, Kevin Feige, with Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Nate Moore and Stan Lee serving as executive producers.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo’s creative team also includes director of photography Trent Opaloch (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Elysium”), production designer Owen Paterson (“Godzilla,” “Matrix”), and three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”).

Based on the Marvel comic character first published in 1941, “Captain America: Civil War ” continues the lineage of epic big-screen adventures chronicled in  “Iron Man,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Marvel's The Avengers,” “Iron Man 3,” “Thor: The Dark World,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and the upcoming release schedule, which includes Marvel’s “Ant-Man” on July 17, 2015, Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” on November 4, 2016, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” on May 5, 2017, and Marvel’s “Thor: Ragnarok,” on November 3, 2017.

Marvel Studios most recently continued its unprecedented success with the release of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on May 1, 2015. The film recorded the second biggest opening weekend of all time with a $191.3 million box office. It has also been the #1 release in every country where it has been released.

Did you know that in the upcoming Avengers Infinity War they are going to break apart the one Marvel universe into multiple universes and I can guess some of them:

Marvel Zombies (where they bring back all of the characters that died on screen or in the comics as zombies)

Hopefully the Pet Avengers (no explaination needed)

and Hopefully the young Avengers (the next generation avengers, some of them are Speed, Wiccan, miss America, Iron Lad, Hulkling, and child Loki)

My problem with age of uLtron was the bruce amd natasha relationship. The winter soldier setup a possible steve and natasha relationship that would have made a great and interesting storyline. Several others i know (and have read on blogs) agree with this and we were all disappointed it did not take place! I hope marvel revisits and explores this possibility and sees what great chemistry the two have together and the way it draws the fans in! Come on marvel, make steve and natasha happen!

@DPT03  Sorry, to burst your bubble, but at no point did Winter Soldier imply a romantic relationship between Steve and Nat. She spent the whole movie (including during fights) trying to set him up with a variety of women and we all know that Steve and Sharon are going to be an item in the future, the Winter Soldier set up elements for that relationship. Steve and Nat have a brother-sister type relationship similar to what she has with Hawkeye.

DPT03
DPT03

Your right they did not have a romantic relationship but the door was opened for the possibility just as in some of the comics storylines where the two got together as their relationship progreSsed. Just voicing My own and friends as well as several others opinion as the chemistry beTween the two actors is amazing! I think this relationship would be much more interesting than one with sharon carter.

msorrentino
msorrentino

@DPT03  While they may have chemistry, I doubt it would be a feasible relationship. A huge part of Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron dealt with how Cap (rightly so) didn't agree with people (Fury and Stark) keeping secrets from him. Nat is a trained spy, lying and keeping secrets is second nature to her. It would no doubt hinder any sort of intimate relationship between her and Cap, who is opposed to being kept in the dark about his friends' activities.

DPT03
DPT03

It would definetly be interesting to see how they would adress those issues, especially as both are seeing they need to make some changes in who they are and find out where they belong. They would almost help to balance one another depending on How the story played out.

DPT03
DPT03

They would help to balance one another not almost-type o.

Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, War Machine, Vision, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, Black Panther and (possibly) the new Spider-Man.

Avengers: Civil War could be a more appropriate title, but it's cool that the Avengers can be a big deal and appear in other films without it being too big a deal anymore. Like, the Avengers is no longer something that comes together every two-or-three years, they're gonna be this indefinite presence just like in the comics, and that's pretty sweet.

Captain America is going to die in his next movie but the Falcon is going to replace him and I am excited and sad at the same time. But Bucky is going to show up to and Natasha.

My theory is that Cap is going to thy to find Bucky with Sam and they finally find him and try to get him to remember, and then something terrible happens, maybe with Stark or Hydra, or it would be super cool if they brought Sin on screen, but he dies and Falcon takes his place (given of the name Captain America the civil war).

This is my Marvel theory for you

-coming from an extreme Marvel fan (kinda given)

@StephineRogers17  They most likely aren't going to follow the comics, Evans has said he's going to be shooting Infinity War for a period of 9 months next year. He wouldn't say that he'd be shooting for 9 months (the total planned shooting time for the film, the Russo's are shooting both parts back to back) if he weren't in a substantial amount of the film.

My guess is that with Evans' contract being up after Infinity War (Evans' contract is for six films with Infinity War parts 1 & 2 being collectively considered as Avengers 3), that Steve will die during the climax of Infinity War with Bucky or Falcon becoming Cap in the aftermath of Infinity War.

My bet is that that is why the Russo's are shooting both parts back to back, perhaps under those conditions Infinity War is considered one film contract wise even though it will be distributed in two parts.

Please no William Hurt!!!! He's a terrible Ross. He's a great actor, just not Ross material. THat would kill the whole 'suspension of disbelief' for me. The last hiccup when they changed to a different Rhodey made it not as fun to watch Iron Man 2. This would just make me think of the horrible Incredible Hulk sequel. NO WILLIAM HURT!! Recast or leave his character out

LOVE the Marvel movies!  One question - WHEN will Black Widow have her movie??  We've had three Iron Man movies, two Thor, two Captain America (third on the way now), it is TIME!  There is a very sizable and very real population of women who are into this superhero genre - don't ignore us!  I have two little girls who are really into this, but constantly ask why they only have Wonder Woman (who last appeared on screen damn near 40 years ago) and Supergirl, who appeared 30 years ago and isn't very popular.  If nothing else, know you are losing A LOT of money by not marketing to us.  Women like me have never been into the DIsney princess-y movies.  BRING ON THE FEMALE SUPERHEROES!

SoupOrHero
SoupOrHero

@mluna_001 Hi mluna!  To answer your question about Black Widow - she will have her own movie when market research shows undeniably that a BW movie will generate at least a half billion dollars in ticket sales.  So far, with ticket sales for Scarlett Johansson's movie "Lucy" being as bad as they were - don't hold your breath.  In fact, the Twitter universe seems to be filled with Johansson haters and Black Widow haters alike.

It's unfortunate that money dictates such things but - the world is 100% run by money and it simply will change for no one.

Also, just yesterday, Ms. Jolie was tapped by Marvel/Disney to direct a Wonder Woman movie which marketing shows will be highly profitable if movie's budget is kept under $200m.  Ms. Jolie passed on the notion - hands down.  So you have THAT going against action-hero movies lead by a female.  I wish it wasn't that way but it is...  Take care!

Nova1080
Nova1080

@SoupOrHero Your example said Marvel/Disney went to Jolie to talk about a Wonder Woman movie. That doesn't make sense.

SoupOrHero
SoupOrHero

@Nova1080 @SoupOrHero Maybe this will help clear things up for those confused:

Angelina Jolie is currently considering and is under consideration to direct a super-hero movie.  Both Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel are on the table at this point.  Whether she decides to direct one of the two movies, a different super-hero movie or none at all - one thing remains perfectly clear.  If Ms. Jolie does decide to direct a super hero movie - the movie's budget will be kept very low - as the market does not overwhelmingly support a female director at this time.

There it is... Knock yourselves out pickers!

@mluna_001

Well, simple there's demand for a Black Widow movie, but the amount of writers that could actually write even a good Black Widow movie, let alone a great one are practically non-existant. Even in comics, Black Widow has never had a decent run on a solo title, the most recent Black Widow comic being the longest running. The fact is writing a Black Widow movie or even a comic is difficult, especially when 90% of the writers are men. Case in point, look at what's happened with Age of Ultron, Joss Whedon, arguably one of the best male writers, when it comes to creating strong female characters, was attacked, because of misinterpretation of a certain scene in the movie. In addition, Black Widow is a spy/assassin/infiltrator by trade, who at present uses her skills to protect the world alongside the other Avengers. Writing a movie in which your main character spends the majority of the time undercover as a bad guy is, I would imagine, incredibly difficult, because the writer still has to keep the audiences' interest. On top of that, in the comics one of Black Widow's "skills" is using her physical attraction to seduce the enemy (when it's a male, which is usually the case), if that was depicted in a Black Widow movie, most likely a certain segment of the movie going audience would complain about it, like they did with a certain scene in Age of Ultron. Let's put it this way, they have yet to make a stand alone Hulk movie that was great, which is kinda retarded considering that Hulk/Banner are one of the easiest characters to write if you know what you're doing, so from that the chances of a stand alone Black Widow movie are slim at least in the foreseeable future.

The captain marvel movie's main protagonist is a woman. It will be interesting to see how they handle it.

Wait so the war isn't about the registration act?

Nova1080
Nova1080

@megamig Why would the register? Every single one of their identities are known by the government. In the comics, the registration act was one part giving up their identities and one part being assigned missions the government deemed worth the super powers. This movie seems to be going the way of the latter.

msorrentino
msorrentino

@Nova1080 @megamig  Well, the movie's version of the Superhuman Registration Act will apparently be worded as such that in effect, if you have superhuman abilities then your only career choice is government operative, this is what Cap will take affront to as he sees it as a violation of an enhanced person's rights and he'd be right. The SRA in the movie is effectively singling out superhumans because they are superhuman, why can't a superhuman decide to be a bus driver?, the government is forcing them to be special ops agents.

Marvel’s “Ant-Man” on July 17, 2015, Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” on November 4, 2016, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” on May 5, 2017, and Marvel’s “Thor: Ragnarok,” on November 3, 2017

We're all assuming that Civil War in the MCU will have the same sides as it was in the comics.

Suppose they TOTALLY reverse it?  Now that Hydra has been knocked out and SHIELD is re-established and Thunderbolt Ross is working with Captain America (in Avengers 2.5)... and there are no secret identities to worry about... and Stark is already at odds with the Gov't... and if the Gov't ran Stark Industries they COULD conquer the world.... Suppose they pull a 180 on us?

Just imagine... Cap, with Thunderbolt Ross, No Hydra, and a clean SHIELD, is now backing the Government because he sees that Stark, left unchecked can destroy the world.  And Stark, basically agreeing with him, continues his rhetoric to the government of "You can't have my technology", because they could conquer the world with it.

Given what we've already seen in the MCU, this plot-line makes more sense.

@imbatman1997004 @SoupOrHero @spidersyed111  In Feb of 2015, CinemaBlend claimed ASM-3 with Andrew Garfield "Definitely Is Happening".  ScreenRant claimed Peter Parker will definitely be Re-Cast in March of 2015 - But they seem to be all over the board on the matter.  In Feb of 2015, "Scott Meslow" of "The Week" (which I've NEVER heard of) seemed pretty confident that Garfield was out while "LatinoPost" stated the opposite, but that article seemed a little too close to April 1st and had a lot of type-o's.  And by now - I've completely lost any level of interest in the matter.

It's all in your hands now, imbatman1997004.  Good Luck!

@SoupOrHero - The franchise will be rebooted, and a new actor will be cast as Spider-Man. Spider-Man will first appear in an unspecified film in the MCU. Then, Sony will co-produce (with Marvel Studios) and finance the next Spider-Man film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Andrew Garfield was apparently fired after he failed to show up for a meeting which involved Sony executives. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 underperformed at the box office, which eliminated the possibility of a third film in the franchise. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is officially canceled. The only films, so far, that are being considered for development are Sinister Six and the female-centered Spider-Man spinoff film. However, those are a part of the The Amazing Spider-Man universe, which may have been shut down. So, there's no possibility of Webb's series to continue.

@spidersyed111 I think it's back on again - Either ASM-3 or Re-Boot, but most likely ASM-3.  They may already casting for it.
