Actually, the US would be within Constitutional rights to ban atheists from all aspects of Constitutional government since they don’t acknowledge that we have God-given rights.

That is how the Founders thought and Atheists were marginalized and not allowed to testify in court. We should get back to the Founding principles of this country which includes Absolute Truth and God. Everyone who doesn’t acknowledge that are free to leave and join those atheist or pagan countries that have been so inferior and created the annihilation of 100’s of millions of human beings, plus abortion “rights” and “euthanasia” and homosexual “rights” where there is no sexual morality...since they don’t believe man is anything more that a “trousered ape”.

What's that thing in our Constitution about not having any religious test as prerequisite for positions in government?

And I'd gladly choose to live in one of those atheist/pagan countries over the kind of theocratic hellhole you're envisioning. Luckily, our First Amendment prevents you from ever achieving that. If you want to establish a Christian version of Saudi Arabia, then maybe you and your fellow freepers should go find and claim for yourselves some remote island somewhere.

Freedom of Religion =/= Freedom of Christianity.

The funny thing about that Freedom of Religion thing is that it protects people's beliefs from persecution, ridicule and discrimination. That also goes for atheism. So no, the US does not have the right by its Constitution to discriminate against atheists. I dare you to test this, then see the constitutional court strike down this idiotic notion once and for all.

Yes, this is true. Everyone is entirely free to leave their career and their home and their family and their friends and their culture and their commitments and their dreams and go somewhere else. There'll always be affordable housing somewhere else, there'll always be jobs somewhere else that use the same skills you've got now, and the locals will always cheerfully welcome, with open arms, immigrants who want to enter their housing market and their workforce and can't speak the language and don't know their culture.

Seriously, the next time anybody glibly trots out the old "you can always go somewhere else" thing, I may actually commit murder.

"savagesusie", I'm not a US citizen. But here in Germany, there are some first signs of fundies who also want to transform the german state into a christian theocratic nightmare. So what I have to say applies analogous to the US, where the problem of radical fundies seems to be much worse than here.

"savagesusie", first of all thank you for revealing your agenda. Now we know for sure what we suspected for long. And believe me: I won't leave and go somewhere else. I won't do you the favour. I won't let people like you run amok and destroy every value that we hold in highest esteem. Values like liberty, freedom, human rights.

Go ahead, try to transform the world into a christian nightmare. But prepare for fierce resistance. As a german, I know from our history what a paranoid dictatorship means. I don't want to live again under a paranoid dictatorship. Yes, your beloved christian theocracy would mean a paranoid dictatorship. The result of a christian theocracy armed with nuclear weapons would be in the worst case hundreds of millions of annihilated innocent human beings, who had to die for your alleged "Absolute Truth and God".

That wasn't done by the Founding Fathers. That was done by a handful of the original 13 states, and mostly against holding state elected office, not testifying. The Founding Fathers specifically forbid the application of religious tests for national office. Such laws violate both the 1st Amendment, and because they would prevent someone from calling an atheist as a witness for their defense, the 6th Amendment as well.

"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."
