Big special exhibition on 700 square metres acknowledging the importance of Ada Lovelace and celebrating the role of women in computer history until today. Ada Lovelace: Computer pioneer
This display celebrates Byron’s daughter Ada, Countess of Lovelace (1815–52), who wrote with remarkable foresight about the potential of Charles Babbage’s calculating machine, including what is often called the first computer programme. Ada Lovelace Exhibition
Discover the remarkable story of Ada Lovelace, a Victorian pioneer of the computer age, in our free exhibition celebrating the bicentenary of her birth. Called the ‘Enchantress of Numbers’ by Charles Babbage, Lovelace was the daughter of infamous poet Lord Byron and the admired intellect Annabella Milbanke. She studied science and maths at a time when women rarely had access to such subjects and collaborated with Babbage on his calculating machines. In Honor of Ada: Celebrating University of Florida Women Distinguished Professors in Science
For Ada Lovelace Day 2015, and the 200th anniversary of her birth (10 December 1815), the University of Florida Libraries are celebrating the achievements of women in STEM with an online and physical exhibit in the Marston Science Library. For the exhibit, we recognize and honor the work of four of UF’s Distinguished Professors in particular: Karen Bjorndal (Biology), Pam Soltis (Florida Museum of Natural History, Molecular Systematics), Jennifer Curtis (Chemical Engineering), and Yunmei Chen (Math). Ada Lovelace 200th Anniversary Exhibition at The University of Oslo
This autumn we celebrate the Ada Lovelace 200th anniversary with a special exhibition at the Science Library at the Department of Informatics, University of Oslo. The exhibition is made by a group of students, and will focus on Ada Lovelace and other remarkable women in computing. 3D printing hackathon
Come together in the Oxford Hackspace to celebrate Ada Lovelace with a hackathon themed around physical computing. You could build a card reader or an adding machine, physically manifest a ‘calculus of the nervous system’, explore Flyology, or create a music machine. We’ll have access to 3D printing, laser cutting, electronics, CNC machines, and much more. All levels of technical expertise are welcome. Time and details to follow. Bodleian lunchtime lecture: The scientific life of Ada Lovelace
Professor Ursula Martin CBE, University of Oxford, discusses Ada Lovelace, 1815-1852, who is best known for her 1843 paper about Charles Babbage’s unbuilt computer, the analytical engine. The paper gave an account of the first ever computer programme, and had visionary insights into the power and limits of computing. The talk complements the Bodleian display celebrating Lovelace.
