The Gelman Legacy

Gelman Chuck and Rita 04

Charles and Rita Gelman

In 2004 the University of Michigan Risk Science Center was founded through a substantial gift from Charles and Rita Gelman, with the aim of supporting evidence-based decisions on human health risks through research, education and communication.

Together with funding from other sources, this generous gift continues to support the research endeavors of the Risk Science Center members. Further, the Charles and Rita Gelman Fellowships, established as part of this legacy gift, provides graduate students at the U-M School of Public Health the opportunity to pursue  independent research projects that are at the intersection of risk assessment, risk exposure, and risk communications.
