Hilliard council poised to OK raises for mayor, council members

By

Hilliard City Council on Oct. 26 gave a second reading on legislation to amend proposed salary increases for the office of mayor.

Council on Nov. 2 is expected to approve the salary increase, effective Jan. 1, 2016, along with the salary of council members.

The amendment was called necessary because the city charter prohibits step increases on the mayor’s salary by emergency measure but requires that salary adjustments be effective prior to Election Day, law director Tracy Bradford said.

Council originally proposed step increases for the mayor’s salary beginning Jan. 1, 2016, and each year through 2019.

Instead, council amended the ordinance to establish the mayor’s new annual salary at $152,200 for each of the next four years, beginning Jan. 1, 2016.

The mayor’s current annual salary is $119,350.
