Gunfire, false claim of being shot result in two men being charged

By

Whitehall police arrested a man Oct. 27 for inducing panic, a first-degree misdemeanor, after he told another person he had been shot and was critically injured.

Whitehall police received a 911 call at 9:44 p.m. Oct. 26, reporting shots fired in front of a residence at 4438 Saint Margaret Lane.

A woman at that residence told police she and her boyfriend, later identified as Brandon Turner, 37, of Cannock Lane, Columbus, returned to the Saint Margaret Lane residence and found another man waiting.

Police identified him as Ashley Holder, 32, of Linwood Avenue.

Holder and the woman had been in “an on-again, off-again” relationship for about nine years, Whitehall Sgt. John Grebb said.

Turner and the woman had been in a relationship about four months, Grebb said.

Both men argued, and Turner displayed a gun, prompting Holder to run away, police said.

Turner fired at least five rounds in the direction of Holder, police said.

Shortly after police arrived, Holder texted the woman at the Saint Margaret Lane residence and told her he had been shot, police said.

Holder told her he was bleeding and did not know his location.

Police from Gahanna and Bexley joined Whitehall police and fire personnel in a yard-to-yard search of the area, assisted by a Columbus police helicopter.

About 3 a.m. Oct. 27, Holder returned to the Saint Margaret Lane residence, and he was not injured, police said.

Holder was arrested and charged with inducing panic, a first-degree misdemeanor. He is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. Oct. 28 in Franklin County Municipal Court.

Turner was arrested and charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony. He is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. Oct. 28 in Franklin County Municipal Court.
