Screenwriter

Screen and novel writer Andrew Davies will be taking the reins on the upcoming BBC adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s epic novel War and Peace. Born in Wales, he started his career as a teacher and lecturer, writing his first play for radio in 1964. Davies is now best known for his adaptations of classic works of literature for television, including the BBC’s much-loved 1995 Pride and Prejudice starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth, as well as Vanity Fair and Sense and Sensibility. His adaptation of Charles Dickens’s Little Dorrit garnered a staggering eleven Emmy nominations, seven of which it won, and he is currently enjoying success with ITV’s Mr Selfridge. As well as his screenwriting work, Davies is also a talented children’s writer.
