AIACR EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP 1935
Note: Drivers scored only points with the car in which they had started. When drivers shared the same car, only the first driver scored points, the second driver received no points for his efforts. The first driver received the point score for both drivers' performance covered with the car. The CSI issued final points: Caracciola 16; Fagioli 22; v.Brauchitsch 31; Dreyfus 35; Nuvolari 37; Stuck 37; Varzi 40; Chiron 40. Motor und Sport applied the CSI numbers to their scoring list and identified on their own all individual points from all seven races. Their mistakes are explained below. 1. Caracciola at the Monaco GP: Motor und Sport identified 4 points, opposing the CSI rules which allotted 5 points for half race completion. 2. Brauchitsch at Monaco GP: Motor und Sport identified 8 points, opposing the rules which allotted 7 points for less than quarter race completion. 3. Brauchitsch at Belgian GP: Motor und Sport identified 4 points, opposing the CSI rules which allotted 6 points for quarter race completion. Motor und Sport allotted those 4 points possibly because Brauchitsch relieved Fagioli. But the rules did not allow him to score for that; total of 34 points. 4. Brauchitsch at Swiss GP: Motor und Sport identified 5 points, opposing the rules which allotted 7 points for less than quarter race completion. 5. Dreyfus at French GP: Motor und Sport identified 7 points, opposing the CSI rules which allotted 8 points for not starting in that race; total 36 points. 6. Nuvolari at French GP: Motor und Sport identified 7 points, opposing the CSI rules which allotted 6 points for quarter race completion. 7. Nuvolari at Spanish GP: Motor und Sport identified 7 points, opposing the rules which allotted 6 points for quarter race completion; total 35 points. 8. Stuck at Swiss GP: Motor und Sport identified 5 points, opposing the rules which allotted 4 points for 3/4 race completion. Stuck was relieved by Pietsch who scored no points, while Stuck's car completed 3/4 distance an got the points. See also Varzi, same situation; total of 36 points. 9. Varzi at Spanish GP: Motor und Sport identified 5 points on their list, opposing the rules which allotted 4 points for 3/4 race completion. Compare this with the French GP where Varzi also shared a ride and Motor und Sport identified 4 points. Same rule needs to be applied, total of 39 points. Information differs of how many laps Benoist completed in the French GP. Paul Sheldon gives 18, Il Littoriale 24. If the latter is correct then Benoist should have 5 points instead of 6 for a total of 45.
