Game of Thrones star joins Crickley Hall

14 year old Maisie Williams stars alongside Suranne Jones in the BBC One adaptation of James Herbert's best-selling ghost story The Secret of Crickley Hall.

Maisie (represented by Louise Johnston Management) has received much acclaim for her screen debut portrayal of Arya in Game of Thrones, which is back for a second series in April.

The Secret of Crickley Hall tells the story of family who move to Crickley Hall to start a new life after their son goes missing. But they quickly discover the building is haunted and events there begin to terrorise them.

Written and directed by Joe Ahearne, this three-part drama is a modern day ghost story especially for Halloween. Told in a dual timeframe, it is full of scares yet underpinned by the heart-breaking story of a family needing to heal and ghosts who need to be laid to rest.

A year after their little boy goes missing, Eve (Suranne Jones) and Gabe (Tom Ellis) Caleigh take their family to Crickley Hall to try and escape the past. It seems like the perfect destination, until cellar doors open of their own accord, unseen children cry through the night and water seeps through impervious rock. At the centre of it all, a frenzied spectre wields a cane.
Just as the Caleighs are ready to move out, Eve hears her missing son. Time shifts between present day and 1943 as the Caleighs desperately try to find out what connects Crickley Hall to their lost boy. Will they find him before the evil that stalks Crickley Hall finds their other children?

The young cast also includes 17 year old Bill Milner, who recently wrapped on the film Broken, 18 year old newcomer Olivia Cooke from Manchester (represented by PHA) who will been seen in the upcoming BBC1 5-part drama The Fuse directed by Misfits director Tom Green, and  The Fades' Iain De Caestecker.

The Secret of Crickley Hall also stars Tom Ellis (Miranda, The Fades), Douglas Henshall (Primeval, South Riding), David Warner (Wallander), Sarah Smart (Five Days, Wallander) and Donald Sumpter (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Game Of Thrones).

The 3-part drama is currently filming around Manchester and Liverpool and is due to transmit Halloween 2012.

The Secret of Crickley Hall

A BBC adaptation of James Herbert's best-selling ghost story, The Secret of Crickley Hall, a haunted house chiller, full of scares but underpinned by the moving tales of children and parents separated 70 years apart, is underway.

The three episode drama is to be directed by Joe Ahearne (Apparitions, Doctor Who, This Life) who has also written the script, for BBC Drama Production North, and is set for broadcast around Halloween 2012.

The story is about a family who relocate to a rain-swept house in a Devonshire town called Devil’s Cleave – It turns out that during World War II, the village was decimated by a flood. Crickley Hall was home to a group of poor orphans evacuated from London who lived under the care of the sadistic Augustus Cribben, who terrorised, starved and beat them. The orphans were seemingly washed away by the flood and now their lost spirits haunt the hall, pursued by the monstrous figure of Cribben...
