An island of romance, nature and adventure

Imagine landing at Cairns International Airport and after a glorious 45-minute Fast Cat ride you are stepping off on one of the Great Barrier Reef's most idyllic islands. Picture white coral beaches, aqua waters and swaying palms – the stuff of adventure and romance.

Fitzroy Island's resort facilities are superb – we always love a pool with swim up bar serving a range of cocktails and snacks. Dining at Zephyr Restaurant with its sumptuous breakfast buffets and modern Australian alfresco dining at night is a pleasure and there are also casual daytime meals and night-time action at Foxy's on the beachfront.

The resort has a wonderful range of accommodation to suit couples, families and groups of friends. You might choose a studio room or go for one of the beachfront cabins with their direct access to Coral Beach and views of Welcome Bay. If you seek a little extra space and the ability to self cater, go for one of self-contained suites that can also be combined to form a two-bedroom apartment with connecting breezeway.

Nature is the hero on this island. Largely national park, there are five different walking trails, with easy and challenging options, leading to secluded beaches and lookouts. Adding to the sense of nature is the turtle rehabilitation centre offering daily tours and the Dive and Adventure Centre will get you out on the water and discovering the Great Barrier Reef.

You can come as a day guest and there are camping facilities, but with world-class resort facilities and accommodation, Fitzroy is best suited to lovers, families and groups seeking several days of fun and adventure.
