Any job is boring compared to these unusual professions. Just because you’ve never heard of a professional cuddler or undercover bridesmaid doesn’t mean there aren’t people whose bills depend on the number of people that need hugs or brides who need somebody to accompany them on their wedding day.

Here are some of the wackiest jobs out there:

  • Professional cuddler

If you don’t have a special someone in your life but you feel the need to spoon somebody, say no more. A professional cuddler gets paid to snuggle and receives roughly US$120 per hour.

  • TV corpse

Acting is hard and not everybody is Hugh Jackman material, but playing a corpse is easier. With the growing demand of drama TV series, there’s a whole lot of need for people who are willing to spend the day lying around playing dead.

  • Lipstick reader

Professional lipstick readers practice the art of lipsology, which basically means they review the imprint left behind when a person kisses a piece of paper. There is even a website called lipsology.com founded by Jilly Eddy, the world’s leading expert in lip print interpretation.

According to the website, “lipsology is a reliable, analytical tool used to assess an individual’s personality, emotions, characteristics, and energy levels based on the size, shape, colour intensity and special markings of a person’s lip prints.”

  • Live mannequin

Live mannequins are trained to stand around. Small boutique shops usually hire live mannequins to interact with clients or simply change their positions every once in a while.

  • Fortune cookie writer

Some people can predict the future, others simply write about what the future has in store for fortune cookie lovers. The chief executive of fortune cookie producer Wonton Food, Inc told The Boston Globe they periodically hire freelance writers to concoct new sayings to add to the archive of fortunes.

  • Gumologist

It’s not easy to create the ideal piece of chewy and only a professional gumologist knows exactly what perfection tastes like. In 2006, chemist Jesse Keifer, a Cadbury Schweppes gumologist told CNN Money his team has to figure out how to combine flavour, sweetness and tartness. The number of bubbles he blows per day depends on the stage of the project.

  • Professional mourner

Professional mourners are paid to attend funeral services and mourn the deceased. Some moirologists can even write a eulogy for a fee.

  • Waterslide tester

Some people pay to test water slides –others are paid to spend their working hours having fun.

  • Professional bridesmaid

Some brides don’t have bridesmaids to accompany them on their wedding day, but this doesn’t mean there won’t be people to help them get dressed or make sure their day is perfect. Bridesmaid for Hire is a company which offers personal assistant-type services to brides and charges anywhere from US$300 to US$2,000 per wedding, according to Business Insider.

  • IMAX screen cleaner

It takes more than a bottle of window detergent and a roll of paper to clean the enormous IMAX screen and it definitely takes a professional to maintain the clarity of the screen. Therefore, cinemas hire trained professionals to clean the huge screens with special equipment.

Other weird and unexpected jobs you’ve probably never heard of are dog surfing instructors, face feelers, breath odour evaluators and dog food tasters.
