Earlier today, HTC announced two brand new smartphones, both with Quad HD displays, and both ready to be sold in China: the One E9+, and the One M9+ (aka One M9 Plus). The latter is obviously a slightly larger variant of the One M9, having the same unibody metal design.
What's different is that the One M9+ features a 5.2-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixels (as opposed to the 5-inch 1080p screen of the M9), a physical home button that includes a fingerprint scanner, a Duo rear camera, and an octa-core 2.2 GHz MediaTek MT6795T processor.
But will the M9+ be a China-only device? Well, the handset might be available in other (unspecified) markets, but the US, Canada, and Europe aren't among them. HTC stated that "the One M9+ is not currently planned to be released in North America or Europe, where we believe our flagship HTC One M9 is the best choice for blazing fast performance, incredible sound, and network compatibility across the broadest range of operators."
So it looks like HTC isn't yet ready to launch a Quad HD handset in the US, despite the fact that rivals like Samsung, LG, and Motorola all have such devices on sale. Or maybe HTC is readying a surprise for later this year? Only time will tell.

It's not supposed to. This device isn't in the same category as the Note 4, as it's not a phablet. This would compete with the GS6, LG G4, Xperia Z4, etc.

Also be competing with the M9 by what your saying is that it will competing with the standard M9 also. That's where the problem is, with a release of this phone, there's a good chance it will take sales away from thier flagship M9. After all is only a .2 difference between the two. Wouldn't make any sense at all.

I'm waiting on the G4 also, although if it's anything like my G3 as far as battery performance freezes and heat, I'm gonna have to pass and just get the S6 or upcoming Note 5.

Wow, HTC deserve to lose money if this is their business plan. "Let's compete with these sleek, new, best selling QHD devices, with a thick, old, HD device, and put this amazing device in only a few countries, cuz clearly no one wants something like this in the current market"

At this point... I just want HTC to go away quietly! I really like the One series but I'm just so sick of waiting for HTC, LG, and (to a lesser degree) Motorola to give us their best. All of them have come so close to making a great alternative to the Note but they always stop short of hitting the mark. No stylus... so so camera... no USA release. I know... "not everyone wants a stylus, mega pixels don't matter". Both true, but just build it and we'll buy it.

I really believe that if HTC put a few things together like:
A 5.7" - 6.0" screen,
Stylus with functionality like the S-pen,
Big, bass-heavy speakers,
Smooth multi-window experience,
Plus a decent marketing budget, they might have a winner . I love my One Max, and find the "Sixth Sense" UX very pleasant. But since the One Max, they've refused to release a large sized phone, and I think it's really hurting them. Come on, HTC - make the One Max 2!

This M9+ should have been their real flagship all over the world. one version with sd810 and another mediatek version

I really hope HTC changes their minds about the release to China ONLY! I've been following the rumors as far back as I could remember about the One M9 and when I heard about the One M9+ I was ready to upgrade from my EVO 3D that seems to be plagued with memory leaks
