AMC Reveals Identity of Austin Amelio’s Character in THE WALKING DEAD

There are some potential spoilers ahead for The Walking Dead Season 6. Don’t say that you weren’t warned!

Last Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead featured the debut of three new characters, two of whom remained unnamed throughout the hour. Austin Amelio played one of the two surviving members of that trio, and his physical resemblance to one of the characters from The Walking Dead comic was not a coincidence.

AMC’s official Walking Dead twitter account named the duo who crossed Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus). And it confirmed the theory that Amelio is playing Dwight.

Why is that important? Because Dwight is a key member of the Saviors, the brutal group of survivors led by Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan. It also means that the people chasing Dwight and Honey were likely from the Saviors as well. That certainly places additional importance on an episode that some fans accused of being filler.

Via a report on Uproxx, Amelio’s Twitter account had a post that said he would be back on The Walking Dead late in the season. That tweet has since been deleted, but it tracks with what we know about Negan’s debut in the sixth season finale.

In the comic book storyline, Dwight has a very pivotal role to play. He’s also visually distinctive for his horrific facial scarring and his crossbow. In Sunday’s episode, Dwight and Honey stole Daryl’s crossbow and his motorcycle. So don’t be too shocked if Dwight’s face is scarred the next time that he appears on the series. That’s a critical step in his journey.
