FC United of Manchester Community facilities and football stadium

Project: FC United of Manchester Community facilities and football stadium
Capital Value: £4.5m
Client: FC United of Manchester
Architect: Taylor Young
Project Manager: Frank Whittle Partnership

Description

BCM designed the original scheme for Ten Acres Lane and also the contingency scheme at Ronald Johnson playing fields.  These Community Facilities have multiple stakeholders, and collating and integrating the various requirements has been a key part of the design process. There has also been extensive community involvement and the project has overcome significant planning and funding challenges.

Funding Sources: Sport England, FA foundation, Lottery, Community Share Scheme.

This £4.5m project comprises extensive community facilities including:

  • Flexible use accomodation including bars, offices, shops and teaching accommodation in addition to the usual changing facilities
  • 5,000 capacity football stadium (to FA League 2 criteria)
  • Main pitch
  • 3G football pitch
  • 2 grass pitches

The current Moston scheme replaces an original design for Ten Acres Lane which was due to commence on site but was subject to change in Local Authority policy when making austerity savings.

"BCM used their expertise to explore a vast number of innovative energy efficient options for our new stadium. BCM went above and beyond the technical brief to help strengthen our stakeholder relations and community engagement which has helped with the success of the project to date."

Andy Walsh, General Manager, FC United of Manchester
